A few months ago I pulled out the stock fan on my 73 challenger and installed under great recommendation a Chevrolet HHR electric fan. It went in great and I installed a 175 thermostat into the radiator port. The radiator is about 2-3 years old but honestly the car has never overheated before. I just wanted the horse gain. I converted the car to a high amp alternator to make sure the fan had plenty of juice. Although I feel that the fan comes on a little late it just can not keep up with longer drives. I have now over heated the car 2-3 times. I'm about to trash the fan and move back to a pully driven fan. I wanted to check here first.
The car has a stock 318 with a stock style brass radiator, 4brl intake and new TTI exhaust. The fan runs good and strong but when I drive it more then say 30 miles on a standard or high heat day the temp gauge goes half way up and climbing. If I pull off and let it idle for a while it comes down a little but is much higher then it has ever been in the past.
Ideas on what I can do? I have heard people here using them on much larger motors with no trouble. So that is why I am like WTF?
