Front Swar Bar Install - Which way does it go?
« on: August 01, 2011 - 05:44:31 PM »
Hey everybody, I'm putting the factory front sway bar back on my 74 Cuda, but I'm not sure if I have it upside down or not.  The ends of the bar have a slight curve.  If you lay it on the ground, should the ends of the bar curve up or down?

Wait a minute.  I found these photos in another thread which says otherwise.  I think this way is correct.  It angles DOWN.

I ask the same question some years back & was told by CP, UP, up worked. If you look at the pic. in the link you will see the angel from the end of the bar to the link looks wrong.

You can see in this pic that they are more square to each other

Here's another car, you have to look close but they are UP

Pretty sure mine angle down... and looking at the pics, the geometry of things suggests down is correct.

Here is a pic of Dave Waldens OE gold Challenger.  He has his bar turning down.

My 73 also had the bar turned down.

I guess I have ADD LOL
Actually I am pretty sure I do , I know at one point when someone asked I was disassembling a car that was realtively original , do I remember which way now ..... nope
 :smilielol:

Logically  if the end of the bar at the lower control arm  is higher than the the mount on the K frame it should bend down , if the K frame mount is higher it would make sense to go up

Maybe it just don't matter.

I'll bet there's a good chance that some got installed upside down even at the factory.  They obviously fit each way.

I hate when a guy brings up something I said a few years back.

I'll tell you what, I'll look at my car tomorrow and prove myself right or wrong.  At this point I still say up.

I saw this thread this morning ,..I had mine down and they were way harder to install than up so I went UP!!! Seemed the correct way as the bushings were not smashed angled when UP.

The bar that's in my car, the one I was asking about in that link, I removed from one of the many parts cars. Clearly I didn't remember either.

Just doing my bit for the site's entertainment value.
