The beauty of the Proform over most carbs is the removable air bleeds , the Holley HP series now has it as well but the SA series does not . The tunability of the Proform QF carbs is unmatched , with 4 corner idle as well they really have the response of EFI .
The response of these carbs will blow your mind overusing an Eddy carb with 40 year old technology

Question for Chryco or anyone else who knows the answer:
What factors determine when to change main jetting vs air bleeds??  For example I had some lean surging on the primaries, so I richened the jets by two steps and it helped, but what condition would have suggested an air bleed change and not swap jets?
Thanks.
Phil

Well on my friends car it always idled rich , it made no difference where you adjusted the mixture screws so we used a slightly larger bleed , it clean up immediatly .
we have tuned the jetting as well if you have to increase jetting your bleed may be too small creating vacuum inside the air bleed tube , possibly a slightly smaller bleed will clean it up with out or in conjunction with jet changes .
Think of it this way , you are drawing fuel out the bottom of a tube through a small orifice [mixture screw or jet], the tube is being fed from the side 2/3 of the way down , at the top there is also a small orifice restricting air flow into the tube . The smaller the restriction at the top the more fuel is pulled in  through the jet  or idle mix screw  , if you open the top orifice it will draw in  less fuel through the same hole as some of the vacuum is lost through the top .

Chryco thanks for the jetting / air bleeds info.  My idle mix screws are only out 1/2 turn and the engine idles great with no stumble off-idle.  Maybe I should put in larger idle air bleeds so the mix screws can be out about 1 full turn??
I'll continue to tweek the mixture, as you say everything is adjustable on the Quick Fuel/Proform carbs.  The performance is getting there.

Heres' some photos of the carb linkage.  On my small block I was able to use OEM throttle cable and linkage "pin with nut", just flipped the pin over to have the nut on the inside.   On the carb itself, the pivot link has a large hole at the top, and a shouldered hole below that.  Using the shoulder hole,  had to slightly enlarge the hole only a couple drill sizes.  Smooth linkage operation and full throttle is easily obtained.

you will need a set of the Numbered drill bits & or air bleed blanks , I would only go one size bigger with a #ed drill set & try that , a couple of thou different in the hole size is noticable
So yes if you are into experimenting find out what size drill fits through the bleed now & go one more size bigger & you will have to turn the idle screws out an extra 1/4 turn to compensate

They are the same company , QF uses red anodization , Proform uses Purple for race & Black for street series
Proform is generally slightly cheaper so shop for price or color

Duh yeah you asked that too  :banghead:
annular is better all the time , a regular booster pulls from a tube on the center of the booster , the annular has small holes all around the booster hidden under pull fuel in smaller droplets creating better emulsion

atomization may be a better word than emulsion , need a clearer definition of both I guess LOL

I would say you were correct on both counts as the finer droplets create a better fuel/air emulsion  :grinno: :grinno:
