Lots of options. Have you tried the search button yet? It all depends on what you are trying to
get( style of driving, what kind of idle) or how much you want to spend.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I know this posting is old but I 'd also be interested in a proven combo.
I wish I could get 500hp out of my 440-6 on premium gas.
Problem is , I'm not ready to dish out 2k for aluminum heads or have my stock heads portedas suggested in other postings.
I already have headers and electronic ignition.
I guess the obvious modification is the cam, many guys here recommand the voodoo lunati cam, but I doubt all this can bring it to 500hp.
I think 440hp is more plausible.
Anyone out thee have stock heads and have a dyno result showing impressive results???

well the 512 R/T post has a stroker 400 with closed chamber iron factory heads , it had 600+ gross hp , 396 at the tires on a dyno that is hard to get a high # on

So to answer CUDA8U, to get 500hp, whether it be with aluminum heads or stroker kit , you'll need to dish out at least 2k-3k.
I think...

The best place to put your money is in the heads. I think it's possible to get 500 HP from  a 440 without a stroker kit by good heads (ported/polished) and a good cam combo.  :2thumbs:

When you say good heads ported polished, what do you mean? Do you think it's possible with ported stock heads? I'm not familiar with this :clueless:. If so, how much do you figure it would cost?. In my case, previous owner told me the engine has been entirely rebuilt 5 years ago with close to no mileag since then. It has a mild cam (comp 270h) ans stock heads. I don't want to spend 2k+ on aluminum heads just yet. Would you advise me to get them ported to get more hp? how much hp would that give me and how much $? I'm running a 4 speed (cuda) 440-6.
Thanks

yes it is possible , I recommend using closed chamber heads to kill detonation with quench , 915 or 516 are the closed chamber castings , with larger valves & smart port work & a good cam 500 gross hp is possible . we did a mild 440 build with iron heads , cam & 6 pack & made over 310 RWHP on a Mustang dyno through iron exhaust manifolds so that would have been closing in on 500 gross hp .
 I charged $500 for porting , valves & machine work should be around $500 , cam & springs / retainers 500-600

Well the quality of life is far better here , the weather & food are just awesome !
We have started two companies here now & are keeping busy & unexpectedly are making far better $$ here .
The big downside is the lack of car scene here , I really miss that , I do know a few people here with big $$ in cars & I am starting to get to know them & hopefully things will open up in that direction a bit more . I should be able to get involved in Racing again over time , I have been helping a local racer improve his car since I have been here & he has been promoting me here ,but so far it is just a sideline .

Counldnt you get pretty close to 500hp with the following:

Upgraded Cam

Alum Intake (Street Dom or Perf RPM)

850 Carb

Long Tube Headers (1-3/4 - 2in Primary)

If you start with a stockish 375 horse, 440 (906 or 915 heads) isnt it feisable that you could get close to 500 with just those added parts and no special head work?

Yes, I believe you can as long as you got hp internals. Won't happen with a nutted  :2cents: 72 block out of charger!!
