Anybody have 15x10.5 on the back of their ride?
« on: August 03, 2011 - 12:27:48 PM »
I've looked through the site and found several threads reagarding this topic but they are all old and all the pix have been removed/deleted...so I hope ya'll don't mind me starting a new thread.

I'm looking for pictures of an e-body with 15" rims with a 10.5 setup.  My 73 'Cuda currently has 14" rims and I'm looking to get a nice, fat tire under the back to give it that sorta old school look.  I am clueless when it comes to tires, sizes, etc.  I've seen a few 'Cuda's in the past with this setup and loved the look, which is why I remembered that size.  So post them pix if you got them...I don't need to know too much about the modifications (I don't want to start another Tires/Wheels combo thread) but if I like what I see, I'll just ask or PM.

Here's some I saw in the other thread that I liked:

btw, does anyone know the model and make of the above rims?

and:

Thanks a bunch!  :2thumbs:

They came on the car when I bought it: 295/50 R15s, which I believe are 10.5s"

Are you looking for a 10.5 tire or a 10.5 rim?

They came on the car when I bought it: 295/50 R15s, which I believe are 10.5s"

Yours look like 295/50 on an 8" rim. The 8" wheel tends to create more sidewall roll than when mounted on a 10" rim. Yours show that roll. This is an easy way to fit a wider tire in a tight area. Notice the space you have to the wheel opening lip and spring. A 10" rim will make these gaps smaller, unless your springs have been moved. A 295 on an 8" wheel will be around 10" wide. A 295 on a 10" rim will be around 11.5" wide. The Chall in my avatar has 295/50 on an 8" rim on the back. I've since changed these out to a 26x12 on a 15x10 rim and they are even wider. FWIW 12" is 305 in mm.

Sure, if you move the springs inboard. I believe XV is putting 335s in the back of their Challengers with the stock wheel wheels, but they use a 3 link rear that eliminates the leaf spring interference. E body springs are splayed mount and wider in the back than the front, and this limits tire sizes.

Thanks for the pix and responses...Jamiez....I like the way your car sits, nice!  :2thumbs:

I would assume tire.....but again, not too sure....when I was at a car show a while back, there was a Cuda that looked great.  I talked with the owner and he started rambling off all sorts of numbers regarding the tires....he could see I looked a little confused and said "Just remember it's a ten point five (10.5) setup, 99% of the people will know what you want"....so that's where I'm at...sad, but true, lol.

That being said, I would like to stick to a 15" rim, mainly because of $$...even though the price from 15 to 17 or 18 isn't all that much with certain rims, it's enough to put me over what I'm comfortable spending.....I will probably go with AR rims that I can find online somewhere...I've seen a bunch of places selling them....but again, depending on what size....15x8, 15x9....does the 10.5 refer to the 2nd number on the wheel size 15x10.5?

I run 295/50/15's on the back of my Challenger using a 1/2" spacer plate. They're on Centerline Convo Pro 15 X 8.5" rims. They tuck up nicely under the wheel well and don't rub. I believe they have a 5 inch backspace.

"Just remember it's a ten point five (10.5) setup, 99% of the people will know what you want".

I guess I'm the 1% then cuz I've never previously heard a reference to a ten point five set  up.

In any case, it would seem the closest you can get to this size easily and inexpensively is to use a 15x8 rim with 4.25 to 4.5 backspace and a 295/50 tire. Any more backspace and you'll need a spacer. Any less and it may hit the wheel opening lip.

Thanks for the info....sorry it took so long to get back to you but I've been slammed at work.

I'll look into this tire combo and see what I can come up with.  I'm going to forget the whole "10.5" thing for now as I can't find what it means so it doesn't do me any good  :2thumbs:.

Still looking forward to more pix with fat tire combos if anyone's got 'em!

Just to confuse/help the situation, I think I remember the  measurement 10.5" on a set of rims I have.

I remember measuring the tire width and I think I got 10.5, it was a while ago.  I think the rim was 15x8 and the tires were 275/60-15.  I'll check if I get a chance.  They are not on the car but assume they fit as I think they have about 4.5" backspace.

That would be great.....and if I'm not mistaken, you live (or used to live) in Billerica, MA, correct?

Close, Belmont, MA.

Ok, so the deal is this.  The tire itself is 10.5" wide at the widest point, looking down at the tire.  The actual contact patch is actually about 8.5"  I believe they are on 15x8 Keystone Klassics.  The tires are 275/60-15.
