Newb just bought a 72 cuda for $15,000 good deal?
« on: August 05, 2011 - 11:06:30 PM »
Hey all. I just bought a 72 cuda this last weekend.

Here is a rundown about it.
340 bored out .40 over
 - how big does that make it?

4 speed Manual but origionally auto

6 pack carb originally 4

NO rust

New red color paint inside and out dunno if its the factory code

Brand new covered interior in grey heavy cloth, custom job, pretty nice.. No pics yet new carpet

All new glass and chrome trim, new rubber seals

Bad:
Brand new motor hasn't been tuned and has a slight miss or backfire and carb hiss
Grill was stolen
Tiny stock rims ew
Air shocks in the rear but line leaks
Painted rear bumper?
Wrong hood/intake combo
Don't know how it is supposed to look from the factory

Other than that it's NICE. About as nice as you can get and not feel bad about driving it!

Did I get a decent price or did I get ripped off

Payed $15,000

I'd say you did good! 15K for a E-Body you can drive now, that's road worthy and no rust!
Good deal in my books!

So if its a real cuda with no rust, Id say real good deal. Even more if the motor is numbers matching.

Your motor is still a 340 it just has it's cylinders enlarged by .040  forty thousandths of a inch.

There's nothing wrong with a painted bumper ofc if you don't like it you can buy a chromed one or re-chrome yours.

The 6 Pack combo is really good you should be happy

Also looks like your missing hood scoop inserts.

WANTED 71 cuda / barracuda project. Prefer Black but open.

I have the inserts but their not installed. The badges too.
I think I'd like to add the side black stripe decal to it. Not sure which one to get though.

Not bad if it's a real 'Cuda.

I'd sell the six-pack setup to pay for a new grille and other stuff (like new or re-chromed rear bumper, wheels/tires, rear shocks/springs).

What's the inside like?  So it runs, but poorly?  I'm sure it can be fixed easily (like a new 4bbl carb!)

There's a board member who sells a wide variety of restoration and custom stripes.  I've never personally used him but you can check out his thread for other users opinions:

That seems like a good deal for the car assuming that the rest of the car looks as good as the outside.  You can check out any of the restoration threads to get a good idea of the trouble spots when it comes to rust.

Enjoy the new car!

The 6 pack can be tune up to get it to run right. I have one on my 440-6 525hp in a 72 Cuda and I like it. But I did own a real AAR so I like 3 carbs on my motors. :burnout:

If the body is solid and it runs good it`s a decent deal, the sixpak is a plus in my book.A few parts and cosmetics and it should look real nice.

Can't go wrong with a Holley va. sec., Edelbrock, or a Thermoquad.  Six-pack has a nice "ahhhh..." factor when you pop the hood, but that money can be used elsewhere IMHO.  like a grille!

I meant the 6 pack or the factory 4bbl? Which will be better for daily driving and or yield more mpg on the highway or in town?
