Throttle Cable length.... urgh. :( Need 1970 383 cable
« on: August 07, 2011 - 12:42:51 AM »
Need help locating a replacement cable.  So far the first two repros have not been the correct length.  Photo one shows the two repops with my original on bottom.  First one was to long and the second one was to short.  Photo 2 & 3 shows the length of the original and the closest repop (couldn't get the bend out and take the photo), but you can see they are different.  When I install the repop cable I get less than 1" of throttle movement.  Photo 4 is the only documents I have that show anything about lengths.

Anyone know where I can get the correct length or should I just make my own?

Thanks!

The cable on my 85 Dodge truck is the same length as the one you need. I don't know if it is the original cable.  You might check the length of a replacement cable at the auto parts store for an 85 truck with a 360.  I have used the truck cables from time to time because they were easy to get.

That's a good option, or I might just make my own.

Spoke with Mike today and emailed him photos.  Standing by to see what he says.

But the more I look at the cables the more is looks like the length just doesn't mater and the it's all about the amount of throw the cable can move.  I put the new long one in again and then the new shorter one and they both only allow the pedal to move less than 1".

I agree , you need to have enough inner cable length past the length of the outer housing to get enough travel , so as long as the cable will reach from the firewall to the bracket you are fine
