1971 Dodge Challenger 340 Shaker Dead as of 4/19/1973
« on: August 09, 2011 - 02:45:03 PM »
I posted this on another forum a few weeks ago and thought I would share this with everyone here. I collect 70 and 71 challenger N96 info. and a gentleman the other day contacted me in regards to his 1971 340 4bbl, 4 spd, blk/blk w/fluorescent orange R/T stripe car. Here is the original owner story of what happen, "A big ass highway sign landed on top of it and the pylons holding it up didn’t do the car any favors  Hood came through the windshield a few inches.  Seats were torn loose from the floor pan..  Girlfriend ended up in the back seat and her shoes were still in the front foot wheel.  She married me anyway. She would borrow it to drag race on Main Street; made the 4 speed sound like an automatic"

If anyone has a 70 or 71 challenger N96 car please feel free to contact with your info.

I'm sure someone would have tried to fix it if that would have happened today.  Too bad it happened in 73.  The whole thing was probably destroyed and no parts were taken off of it.

Did anyone notice it has R/T badges AND R/T stripes?  That's the first thing I noticed when I saw the pictures.

Wow!  Glad no one got killed in that accident!

Had the hood pins and wide chrome on the nose as well as a shaker.

I wonder how long he had the car before the accident, other words, what year did the accident happen?  :clueless:

Did the R/T option also come in 340? I thought it was 383 and 440?

Did the R/T option also come in 340? I thought it was 383 and 440?

For 1971, the R/T option had the 340 engine available.

1970 did not supposedly have the 340 as an option for the R/T but had the A66 package for the 340 which made it close to an R/T in appearance.

Front bumper guards too (not that they could have helped).  I bet it was a two fender tag car!

while i wouldn't have the skills to bring that one back to life, i know there are several on this board that would have that car whipped back into shape and showroom new in no time!!

Cool pics.  I love seeing vintage pictures.

So, as it was said above, this must have been a two tag car.

Do you have fender tag info on this car Speeddemon?

since it was probably destroyed, did the owner keep that info?
