friend of mine who knows holleys says it sounds like i have a bad power valve.

any suggestions on that? should i just replace it anyways? it looks cheap... like $8 plus some gaskets to split the carb apart.

should i also get some jets as well? i forgot to mention i have #62 jets

and whomever said it had a lean condition before. its definately 'loading up' with gas, plugs are sooty, its throwing fuel and sometimes a fireball out the carbs. mostly the center carb

They way your system look I would go through all 3 carbs , it seems someone patched it together to make it work , I would swap the power valve , but measure the vacuum first , you need to have 2" more vacuum than the power valve rating idling in gear if auto so if you have say 10" of vacuum put in a new 6.5 PV , but if you have 6" go to a 3.5 PV
61 was the stock jet so you are good with 62
Could be bad gaskets , PV , Fuel level , or other internal leaks causing the flooding or loading

so you need to take apart the linkage & move the bushing behind the slider link so it will not force the end carbs open but instead close them

I tried a new power valve and put new gaskets in the center carb and new idle needle corks.... Well no more backfiring but it filled my whole street with smoke! It's SO rich!!!!!

Could bad gas cause that? Not burning efficiently?

I have to keep it floored to start it. After about 4 or 5 seconds it will slowly come to life but I have to keep my foot in it to stay running.

Wonder if I need a different pv? I have one more I can try tomorrow. Then I'm outta ideas :(

probably a bad needle & seat causing it to flood on one or more of the carbs

the linkageyou have will work , he kits to get the linkage are $250
the needle & seat are the adjusters on the top of the carb / fuel bowl , if you remove the sight plugs on the side of the bowl  fuel will be spilling out of one or more of them , remove the neddle assy from the top of the carb & clean it or replace it & reset the float level
