Virtually any Dodge truck 88 & newer will have the mini starter , I get them for $25 form a local wrecker , Honestly I have not seen one fail unless the contacts wear or the nose breaks . When I get them from the wrecker I pull the plate & check the contacts , clean them up or replace them  before installing the starter though

My starter is a junkyard starter. I've had it for 6 years now, who knows how old the vehicle was I got it from. Would definitely do it again. "lifetime warranty" parts house starters leave me leery. More times you swap them out a dozen times before a good one. Happy with my 6 year old junkyard starter and alternator.

I have a buddy that owns a wrecking yard. He fixed it in like 10 minutes. It was the contact on the solenoid. It had about 1/16" raised nubbie on it? How that got there I have no idea, must have been there since new?
He just disasembled it filed it down, assembled it and away it went! No charge even! It's sure nice to have friends!

I had to remove the steering column to get the starter out though, still much easier than taking off the header! Took like 10 minutes to remove the column.
Now back out to the garage to install it.

99's & later have a different contact configuration, mid 2000's got a different starter altogether. Basically, when the Magnum engines went away after 2002, so did this starter.

I almost joined you in the towed home club.  I was at a cruise and when I headed home the car was hard to start...Got it out of the parking lot and it stalled and wouldn't fire. Pushed it clear of the road.  Fortunately there were lot of car people around and it was quickly discovered that the coil wire had worked itself loose.  Doh!.  Reconnected it and got home no problem.

Ok after I reinstalled the starter and steering column again I tried it. ..... darn think still just" clicked" I thought oh fantastic! 
I tried it a few more times, then I noticed a spark at the battery post, then it started. I think the problem was the positive battery cable was toast. It had " the green death" I think it was the original from 1970!    So I got one the next day from the dealer( out of the Mopar performance catalog) for under $50 taxes in. Hooked it up and all seems good!

I had a cable that did that to me once out in the middle of no where too. Pocket knife and a trim screw got me home.

Glad it wasn't something serious.  Have you had your main harness out yet Brad?  I had mine out when I first got it and there were definitely some hot spots that I had to repair.

 No not yet although I know I should be planning to replace it all down the road.

I have seen a lot of harneses that are just fine , just clean the corrosion off the connectors such as the bulkhead plugs , coat them with die-electric grease & you are good to go
