What compression ratio does a 440 have?
« on: August 12, 2011 - 09:56:46 PM »
What did the 1970/1971 440-6 have for a bone stock, completely unmodified compression ratio?

Thanks,

I was thinking the 4 barrel had 9.5:1 and the six pack 440 had 10.3:1 but I don't know that as fact.   Does any know for sure or can point me to a reliable source?

Thanks

Maybe an old service manual?  :dunno:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

they have a flat top piston so it will be around 9.8 : 1 , even with the piston zero decked you barely get 10:1 & the blocks are always taller so it is never zero deck height

My info came from Hot Rod magazine page 38, December 1969 issue and an article on the 1970 Challenger...BRUTE FORCE...  4.32" X 3.75" Bore and stroke.  By the way.......gas miledge...best...13.06 mpg and worse...10.52mpg.
