check the voltage output on the alternator,,to make sure it is charging,if it is then you probably need to check the wiring ,also new voltage regulators can be a crap shoot depending on were there made,,

Thank you for the reply 72rtchallenger
The new Altenator  is showing 12.0 V at idle and only 12.2V when engine is running  ( Idle )
These voltages are from the battery terminals not the battery posts .
Am I checking it properly ?

sounds like nothing coming out of the alternator..but, check the battery terminal on the back of the alternator using the case for the ground probe.

11.9 V at the back of the Alternator. So I assume nothing is coming out of the alternator.
Could I have a bad new regulator ??

Thx again

as long as you have 12v feeding the blue wire to both the VR & alt & the green wire has connectivity between the VR & alt then either the rebuilt ALt is bad [common problem] or your VR is bad

Say hello to Denise for me. In 2 or 3 months the car show/crusing  ill be over for another season , here.

I have 12V feeding the blue wire from the alternator. The blue wire goes back to the regulator
I have 12V feeding the green wire from the alternator. The green wire goes to my electric choke ???

I will pull the Regulator and get another one.

Thx again

Umm Say what ??
the blue wire comes from the ign switch to both the reg & alt , the green wire from the field has to return to the reg to ground there , , if it goes to your choke why would it have ever worked

I just checked it again. This time for sure.
The green wire goes back to the Regulator or the ignition module. I assume it goes to the ignition module or both . I had to unwrap a lot of black electrical tape.
The blue wire goes to the electric choke. The choke may never have worked as I only drive in the summer .
Way back in 2000. Dean Tilleman did an electronic ignition conversion for me. The origional car came with points.
Strange thing is, it has been fine for over 10 years.   Could the wires be crossed at the alternator ?

no it does not matter which terminal is which on the alt
there is a blue wire to the ballast resistor , from there it should feed the regulator & the Alternator , it may also feed the choke & it seems to be getting power to the alt so that has to be working , so you have a bad ground @ the reg or a bad reg or a bad alt , just because it was rebuilt means nothing , i have seen new alts last less than 100 miles

Thanks Neil.
I will do some digging tonight. Clean all the wires and trace the Blue one from from the ballast resistor .
A good excuse to clean up the wireing.
