Dealer installed AC?
« on: May 13, 2002 - 09:40:36 PM »
Hello,

I have an under-dash AC unit that I received with my car ~12yrs ago.  It looks like the right vintage for the age of the car (70 Challenger) but I've never seen one before.  It also looks like it was somewhat designed for the car.

Could this be a dealer installed unit?  Anyone seen one of these before?

Ron, ARA was an aftermarket A/C company from back in that era. I don't know if they are even still around. Unlike today, back then a lot of cars were bought with out A/C and later on had it added, so there was a pretty decent market for add on systems. The aftermarket companies had systems designed to fit specific vehicles, and some were even installed by the dealers. Back in the late 70's I had a 1967 Impala Super Sport that had a dealer installed A/C system. It used the GM compressor, and even had a Chevy bowtie logo on the housing under the dash, but it was definately aftermarket.
