Hello from CO
« on: August 16, 2011 - 12:46:48 AM »
Been a long time coming but I finally have a car worthy of mentioning again after many years of 'off time'...  I stared out at 16 with a 74 Challenger, then a 70 RT/SE which I had to sell (sniff). I've had various "other" toys and now, finally, I bought a 1970 Barracuda Convert and boy am I pumped! Needs a ton of work but it's very complete (unless you count the missing (rusted) floor/trunk.

Question is, where can I find a reputable company who will ship a car that's partially in pieces? The front clip is removed, no engine and all the tires are pretty much shot. Oh and there is no steering center..  yup, that's about it... If I can't bribe my brother into driving from MN to CO, can someone recommend a transporter who will ship this car in this condition?

Thanks!

Barring someone here being in the right place at the right time, perhaps it's down to renting a trailer-U-Haul has them and borrowing/renting a pick up and going for a drive? Don't let it get away and good luck with it. There are lots of guys on this site who have a wealth of knowledge to help you when you get restoring it.

Thanks guys! I a just moved here from the U.K. No, I am not a Brit :) I was working as a contractor. I've been looking over this site drooling all over my keyboard for far too long and have seen some amazing things happen to cars that I thought would have continued to work there way into the ground. This site and much reading (and drooling) are what convinced me to take the leap of faith as it were. Now I am neck deep and loving it..  Still working on getting the thing transported but once I have it in my possession, I'll post pics. I've looked at the uhaul option and it's going to be $1200 and then gas ugh, plus a cheap flight to it's location.

Welcome.

I think you'll be a lot better off if you can put a center link it, at least temporarily. It'll be a lot easier to move around.

Welcome to C-C.com and welcome to Colorado.

An event coming up soon you may want to attend, Mopars on Thunder Mtn at Bandimere Speedway August 28, 2011. Bandimere.com for more info. Some other resources worth considering - Rocky Mtn Performance Mopar Club, rpm.maxwedge.com; Colorado Mopar Club, coloradomopar.org; Southern Colorado Mopars, southercoloradomopars.org

You might contact Barry Washington for specific numbers, info on convertibles. He is a member on this site, but I forget his user name here.

Tool question. What should a budding cuda restorer look for in a mig setup? Anything to stay away from?

Another tool question. Where can I get plans/drawings of the dollies that are often used when the suspension etc is removed?

Welcome from Salida.

I would post your tool questions over at   The Rest of the Tech in Chryco's Tech Shop.

You will get way more answers there.
