Might as well throw me into this gang. Separated at 46 divorced at 48 and 55 now. It may not seem like it now but (like you said) things will get better. Just keep looking at the bright side, enjoy this independance and don't jump into anything too soon. I wish you all the best.

They will get better. I even got a point where I could have a conversation with the ex. I didn't really enjoy, but at least I wasn't jonesing to take a machete to her either

Jeff, would it make you feel better to speak to a lawyer? Because while I don't know the local divorce laws, around here it's 50-50 on anything you amassed during the marriage. So, get your cars professionally appraised as well as hers and put it all, 401s included, on the table. It sounds like you're getting screwed here, but remember 2 immutable truths of life- 1"-no good deed shall go unpunished AND 2:-the lawyers will ALWAYS end up with most of the money. If there's no kids involved, count yourself lucky. Go drive your cars, it'll keep you out of the bottle and will put a sorely needed smile on your mug.

The 50/50 split is supposed to be the normal but as in my case the ex just kept putting off making a decision, couldn't actually due to mental state and each time a solicitor gets involved $$$ start disappearing from the split up pot, I settled the way I did as it was going to cost me at least another $30,000 next time in court and that was going to be next January, cutting your losses and keeping your sanity is more important than a few extra   :money:
