transmission fluid question
« on: August 21, 2011 - 11:16:04 AM »
What is the best transmission fluid to use for a 727 after a complete rebuilt?  Built to stock specs with a B&M shift improver kit.   How does everyone feel about using generic store brand lubricants?  I was once told by a parts supplier that most store brand oils are provided by the brand name oil companies.

Years ago the best solution was to use F type fluid but the key was to never mix with regular ATF
For the cost of rebuilding a trans I would use the best fluid possible , saving a few $$ & having to pull the trans & rebuild again makes no sense to me .
Things have changed & I do not know what the best fluid to use now is , Terry can help you with this , F type seems to have disappeared since all the synthetics have come into play . the other issue is you change engine oil every 300 miles or so but never think about the trans running 50,000 miles on it .
I agree that most generic oils are made by major oil companies but not nessisarily with the same additives

what fluid would you recommend for a used 727. Got it from a 77 truck(shifted good before truck was scraped). I'm changing the filter and fluid now.
