    Hi All,

    A little about me.
    My name is Mark and I'm from Chicago originally, but have lived in SE Wisconsin since '06.

    I bought my 71 Challenger R/T in 1990 when I was 16.  I found the car in Minnesota and I had it shipped to Chicago.  I immediately started my resto even though it was in driving condition. With the help from my firends and fellow Mopar ethusiasts I was able to get enough of the car together to drive it for the first time to my high school graduation in '92. By 95/96 the car was done and I have enjoyed it ever since, including using it my wedding.

    As I'm sure some of you can attest, I wish this board was around when I started my resto 20+years ago.

    Enough about me, the car:
    1971 Challenger R/T
    Bare bones low factory option car built end of May 71 at Hamtramck
    383 Magnum A/T 8 3/4 with 3.23 (now 3.91 Sure-Grip)
    GA4 Gunmetal
    Factory Vinyl Top
    Manual steering and manual drum brakes (makes it all the more interesting to drive).
    I added the Shaker

    Engine is warmed over with 10.5:1 compression, closed chambered heads, hemi grind purple cam and headers.

    Welcome to the site.  Great looking original car.  I also have a 71 Challenger but it was originally a 318 car.  I love them and would loved to have had mine during my wedding.

    From one Mark to another, welcome to the site! :wave: :biggrin:  Which city/town are you from in SE Wisconsin?  Kenosha/Lake Geneva by chance?  I'm up in Florence, which is very close to the Upper Peninsula of MI (Kingsford/Iron Mountain area).  Very nice job with the restoration of your Chally!  It looks very nice! :2thumbs:

    I'm in lake country - just west of Milwaukee still east from Madison.

    I've flown into Iron Mountain to go to Kingsford and Escanaba for work many years ago.
    Beautiful timber country, got get a pastie.

    No mods being considered except the resto is already 20 years old.
    I've been contemplating redoing the whole car or "upgrading" to a convertible.


    Long story endless of why I have a shaker hood.

    The car was originally equipped with a rallye hood.
    Unfortunately, one of the previous owners decided he was going to add hood pins.....
    Not a bad mod, except he placed them in the wrong location. I'm assuming he have never noticed the predrilled holes in the fenders and the corresponding location under the hood. Instead he punched the holes closer to the center of the hood. The holes went through the hood including the under hood frame and then placed a pair of new holes in the sheetmetal plate that connects the 71 grille to the radiator.

    Well as you may know, the 71 rallye hood does not have the individual DODGE lettering on it. Which made it tough to find a replacement (this was 15-20 years ago).  So I while I was searching for a correct rallye hood, I continued to saved my money and was able to get a shaker hood complete with air cleaner before I was able to find the correct 71 hood.

    Mopar people tend either love it or hate it - usually with a generally positive review.
    I decided when I was 18 to keep it the original color vs changing to a high impact. I'm glad I did.
    When I used to go to the Nats it was rare enough combo that I could pick it out a mile away in the crowd.

    Till this day I've never come across another restored '71 383 Challenger R/T in GA4. I've now jinxed it.
    I've found a 340, 440-6 and Hemi though.

    I haven't been to the Jefferson meet yet, but it is about a half hour drive for me.
    I was just at the Dodge City event in Brookfield.
