How I spent my summer vacation or Viper 6 speed in a Barracuda
« on: August 23, 2011 - 09:17:25 PM »
I had 2 weeks for summer break, I'm a teacher, so I'll show my progress on my project.

First of all I collected some parts before I started the swap.   My car is still a shell so I'm just trying to do the major structural stuff.

Second let me thank everyone here for this great site, I would not have tried this without this resource. It's my first car project, but I am an aircraft mechanic.
Also let me thank Thedodgeboys for his input that he was happy with this swap, and 73restomod for his great post on his swap.   I pretty much copied his ideas, but did things different because of the tools I have availble to me.   My skill level is not up to his standards either, but I'll post my pics anyway

Ready for the cut of the tunnel

Side view,  I didn't build it symettrical as I would not have room for the reverse shift lockout

Thanks for sharing the photos!  Very cool!  :woohoo:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Very cool!  Wow, thats an AGGRESSIVE project!

Are you replacing the firewall?  Kinda looks like swiss cheese...LOL

Good luck with the project and keep us updated!

By the way, thanks for being a teacher.    Not many of us could spend 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week or more with a room full of other people's "little angels" and do it with a smile on our face and teach them to be the next group of people running our country.

Hats off to ya.

Thanks Guys,     Thanks for the encouragement.   I'll keep posting pics.   I'm tring to do  most everything myself and making alot of my own parts.  I don't want to have more than 20K into it when I'm done.  It's a 74 318 car, so never be worth big bucks.  Want to spend most of the money on the engine.  We'll see?
Tring to finish all the structural sheetmetal before I get to the exterior.  Hopefully by next week I'll have torque boxes installed.

Started making the rear torque boxes tonite.   Got them close to the right size, almost ready to weld in after I clean up the area above them.   First one took 2 hours, other side 1 hour.  It's just a opposite of the other side.   Probally 10$ worth of metal, saved alot from buying.    I know they don't look original, but that is not my intention with this project.

Right side

Right side again

Hopefully get the fronts made by Friday.

Great work, Dan!

Just curious, what type of teacher are you?  :clueless:

Left side

Make sure you smooth out the square hole you cut.  Put nice big radii in the corners.  I don't know what kind of stress is transmitted through these, but it would suck if they started to crack in the corners.  I think the original pieces had a stamped lip that offers a lot structurally.

Yes , i must radius the corners of the holes and square them up.   Thanks for the advice.   I have to go back and clean a few things up.   When I started the project I was going to kill the rust but not go crazy on the fix up.....     It's now on my homemade rotiserie   I had a China welder and now I must redue a few things now that I have a better welder,   Lincoln
