ragtop, I don't see an asking price on the listing you posted.  Did you contact them?

No, but I recall that car being on e-bay a couple mo. ago and it was around $250k buy-it-now I think.

They may have asked $350k for it back in March, but perhaps they're getting more realistic.

For a #1 restoration, it'd take $100k to do and maybe a year for a shop like Muscle Car Restorations or Julius or Rocket to perform.

Car from the OP is rusty as heck.  Maybe no rot-through is showing, but definitely need a blast and preferably an acid dip.

My Opinion, and my opinion only. I think this is a 100k car. It's numbers matching with nice fender tags and buildsheet.Very desirable. Very rare. Easy to prove that its real. At 100k you can do a correct resto and not lose out if time to sell.  Maybe even make a couple bucks if the market ever comes back.

I thought of talking to the seller, because I think I could come up with that amount if I could manage to cash out with my other cars. Who knows how long that would take in this economy.  :walkaway:

Geez, let's not beat the poor guy up.  It's a very cool car and a huge part of Mopar History.  I feel this is one of those cars that the true value can not be determined based on comparables, because how many first day cars are out there still in existence, let alone for sale.  As with any car, the market will determine the value.  Is he asking too much?  I don't know.  As far as the condition of the car, it is 41 years old and in original condition, so there will be some rust on it, but you can't make calls on that based on pictures.  Surface rust? Yes, plus the drain area, but without a physical inspection opinions should be kept to ourselves.

Shouldn't posts in the Classified section be left to direct questions about the car, not speculation on the condition of the car and what it's worth?

Why are you so afraid to list your asking price? Or are you just trying to make a game of it!
If you don't know what it is worth, try posting pics and a question on our "what's it worth" link.
 Good luck on the sale.
I am not afraid to put the exact figure/price and it is not a game-I do not need to let everyone know how much I may or may not make on the sale. As far "what is it worth" I get advice from all over the board, even though no one has come to look at the car. It's one of seven built. One year only. I have driven it from California to Maine via the Denver route. No problems.

I never questioned his price as I think it may be worth over 100k but the car is rusty-that rust hole in the pic is the trunk floor above the rear spring perch not right behind the pass door. Also what proves it to be a factory promo/show car and not just an early production number that is loaded? Many Hemi and other cars had special handling didn`t they?Any history behind it?Either way it deserves a top notch resto.  :2thumbs:

If thats the hole in the trunk then it is as I said the one from the muffler tearing out a hole when it dug into the road. If I had the money to order a new Challenger R/T conv in 1970 (sight un seen) fully loaded I would have ordered the Hemi-not the 440 sixpack. All the promo cars are FE5 Red. All came fully loaded. All came with the 440 sixpack engine, 4speed and the 4:10 Dana, "special handling" refers to the car being hand fitted and finished and not built fully on the assembly line. Also my vin number is between two known promo cars. Built the same day (Aug 2nd 1969) as the others. And G.G. said it is one when I asked him a few years ago. Before you knock the car as being "rusty" please first come and see it, cameras do not always take great pictures.

I have all of the Promo 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible V.I.N.s listed in the 1970-71 E-Body Convertible Registry.
JS27V0B100421 is included in that list.

I'm diggin' that car. You got a beaut there. I've been wondering one thing for a long time, though: how come every time I see broadcast sheets for e-bodies, it looks like it was burned by the seat springs, or is that dirt? and why are the impressions seat springs? Is that where the sheets are kept after the cars leave the factory?

I am so tempted to jump in but I am not a potential buyer. Let me just say that "as I said" went from a sea gull feather to a muffler issue.

People will obviously scrutinize a $100k+ car, so make sure you are ready for some feedback regardless. It looks like a nice and fairly original car, so I think once the OP gets Barret-Jackson out of his dreams, he may have some money in his pocket.

The broadcast sheets were usually stuffed between the springs and seat foam. I think its mainly spring rust. Nothing to do with light since its so dark in there.

Thanks for the info, really cool car.I`m local and would love to come check it out but I`d just be wasting your time as I don`t $100 to spend right now never mind $100k.   :banghead:

I had a question for RagtopChally, the picture of your car has a black hood stripe but side stripes are white, I've never seen that before, was that the way it came from the factory? I've always thought the hood and side stripes were the same colors.

In 1970, you can order the V21 hood blackout/decal option, which I have NEVER seen OTHER than in black.  Of course, you could order V9* or V6* (rear bumblebee or side stripe respectively) in any color.

I contacted them for both by phone (left message) and email.  No one has ever got back with me.   :dunno:
