    Hello,
    since i put in the 3 v-belt  in about 9 month of driving I think these ones I get over here in Germany do not fit or are not as good as the "original" ones.
    What v-belt are you using and if you could tell me the american size-marking. Of course it is for my '70 cuda  ;)

    The first thing to do is put a straight edge on the pulleys to make sure they are all aligned correctly.  If they aren't aligned, the belts will wear out and can get thrown off. 

    The reproduction belts from Quanta have been known to stretch and fly off.  I havn't heard of an problems with other brands as long as the pulleys were aligned properly.

    On my 71 Cuda, 440, ps, I have the same prob:  If I rev it up, it will throw the belt  Normal driving its OK   Ive known for years now that in my case, the pulleys are not in exact line     It appears as if my crank pulley is about 1/4 to far inboard  (or the other pulleys are to far outboard)

    My alt pulley and PS pulley are in line with each other.  Its just my crank pully looks about 1/4 inboard

    yep, might be the alignment. I threw my innermost alternator/water pump belt a month ago and the engine overheated on me. PITA. Would figure I would lose the MOST CRITICAL belt.  :pullinghair:
    After replacing all three belts since I was doing it, I noticed for the first time that nothing lines up perfectly. Looks like another project in the works.
    Dont know why I didnt notice it before, because Im usually very good at noticing things like that. Things out of alignment or not square or straight usually stand out like a sore thumb to my eyes. Looking at a picture of my old alternator you can definitely see it:

    After the fist time the v-belt was done i noticed and fixed the problem of the pulleys so now they are aligned correctly. Before that the belts wear of at the (side)edge. Now they are loosing teeth, the other vbelt (to the servo pump) has no teeth and works great since it's still the first one. I think it is because of the teeth i guess the original ones are like the other one i have without them... or not?

    PS: tommy, in my case it was about the same but the other way around.

    I use Gates belts from CarQuest without problem.
