question about rocker arms
« on: September 01, 2011 - 01:33:52 AM »
I disassembled one of my rocker shaft assemblies in order to clean it and need to know how you tell a left from a right rocker arm?
The manual shows a picture of a rocker assembly that has the arms(from right to left) lableled left -right-left-right etc.  If you look at each arm. some have the push rod bump left of center or right of center.  Is this how you determine which is left or right or is there a different way to tell .
Thanks
Mike

Probably should've numbered them...they form a wear pattern with the valve and can wear pretty quickly if you swap them around.

Look at the picture at the offset of the push rod "bumps".  The location determines left and right.  The offset is to line the pushrod up optimally with the hole in the head and the lifter below

Agreed. I did the same thing a couple of decades ago, and ended up with a pushrod wearing through the rocker arm. The little nub poked up about half an inch. Of course, I was also famous for running the car without oil, so that might have helped
