Factory 340 intake vs. Holley Street Dominator
« on: September 02, 2011 - 06:06:46 PM »
I have a 340 Cuda built to 70 specs except for a .484" Cam and Headers.  It currently has the factory 340 intake and runs well.  I have a Holley street dominator intake that I would like to put on if it will help the cause.  Since the intake gasket is leaking I might as well change it.  Let me know what you think.

Assuming the car is for street use, maybe has auto trany or highway axle gear ratio...
The Holley street dominator is a single plane intake manifold.  If any of my first sentence is true the single plane intake will absolutely kill low speed torque.
I had a 340 duster with auto trany and 3.23 axle gears.  I tried a single plane intake.  What a mistake...turned the car into a dead dog for street use.  Ended up putting the OEM dual plane intake back on and sold the single plane.
The 340 cast iron intake is a very good intake manifold.  The best dual plane aluminum intakes gain very little in performance.   Look for an Edelbrock LD-340 aluminum intake if you want the weight savings.

Yup, auto trans and stock gears.  Want to step up to the 3.9 range in the rear gear.  Maybe then I will swap the intake.

The air gap is a dual plane?  I have been out of the small block thing for a while.

Yeah, finally got it.  Its not what your charger is mechanically, but the wife loves it and she wants to take it over when I get a charger in a couple years.

Can anyone link to some info about the air gap?  I have heard they are good but would like to see some info for myself.  I'm ready to order one, but want to see what it will do on a mild 340 like mine.

I hope you sell it even though I would love to have it. My wife and I were trying to figure out how to get both. I'd probably have to sell all my other toys.

Here is one engine build that tested the RPM air gap.  They said:
"Installed Edelbrock Performer RPM "Air Gap" intake manifold, which was the best single-gain swap yet"

:iagree: I have the RPM Air Gap on my 340 in my Dart Sport and like the performance. You won't be disapointed with that intake.
