Wanted: 1970 Challenger T/A
« on: September 02, 2011 - 11:09:37 PM »
G'day all. After owning my R/T for a year, I've come to the conclusion that a T/A is what I really need.

I realise it may be a bit of a task, but I thought I'd try my luck.

I'm looking for a project. My only stipulations are that it must be a genuine T/A. Must have tags still intact. Must have original #'s matching block that can be saved.

Original trans & diff are a bonus but not necessary. 4 speed preferred but again, not necessary.

As far as condition goes, so long as the body is salvageable I'll consider it.

Not worried about colour.
Not worried about interior.

I realise I might be dreaming but thought I'd put it out there.  :2thumbs:

If anyone has a line on one, or comes across one in their travels, please consider me. I'd be really nice to anyone that puts me onto one.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers,
Russ

I recently bought an T/A project all numbers matching engine / 4 speed  with fender tags and it's a real deal Sublime green.  I'm picking it up later this month.  I'm like you and wanted the same things in the project.  I could have spent less and got an auto or non numbers car, but in the end I made the deal.  With that said, I haven't picked it up and not sure what your budget is, but PM me if you want to talk.  The car is in Ohio right now.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Hey I think I saw that one and posted about it in the CL section.

Is that the 6 pack that was in storage for 20+ years?  I remember the guy had a picture of it up on a trailer.  Would have been in NE Ohio (was on Cleveland CL) if it's the same one?

That's it!  He posted it on ebay too.  Neat project, but had to pay fair amount to get it.

Awesome, glad to see it went to a member.  I saw it wasn't cheap but from the pictures it looked pretty solid and it's a real T/A.
I considered picking it up myself but it's too big of a project for me and I have no place for it.

Can't wait to see it show up in some pictures here :)

Just finished my T/A restoration yesterday and I have to tell you------------ the T/A is an amazing car, especially if it still has a lot of the original parts such as the air cleaner top & base, carbs, intake manifold, "O" heads, T/A block, rocker arms, valves, oil pan, exhaulst manifolds, fast ratio Pitman Arm, Power Steering cooling unit, T/A radiator, Fiberglass hood, Rear Spoiler, Sure Gripe Rearend, no rust T/A Fenders, etc, etc.

Of the 2,5xx original T/A's built, there are only some 1,375 (in various condition) on the T/A registry.  There are actually a couple for sale on this site, but they ain't cheap.  It's a matter of being patient and having the funds available when it's time to pull the trigger.  My advice is to work at getting/building up your purchase funds while you continue to enjoy the search.

It would take some serious $ to get me to part with mine, so I won't even bring it up.  Best of success in your search.

Thanks for the words mate. I am selling my R/T to fund this which means I won't be able to move on any car until that is sold anyway. Even then it wouldn't bring in enough money to afford a restored T/A. A project will be my only viable option.

:iagree: Totally!!!!!!!!!! I've had mine since 1990 and I don't think even for stupid cash I'd let it go. Just took it for a long ride yesterday and changed the oil. Then gave her a wash job. Once you get one you'll know just how special they are.

This showed up on my usual CL search

I'm guessing since it's finished and he says 100k....it's not what you're looking for.  Just passing it along :)

Haha yeah, way out of my price range. Can't be a restored car. Must be a project. Only way I could afford it.

I had considered buying this T/A sometime back (can't remember, but it was a few years ago) and the seller (likely/possibly) not the same one here wanted $62k for it at that time.
