4cruzin's stupid question area
« on: January 07, 2005 - 01:30:47 PM »
I’m in the garage today since LB is going so dammn fast and making me look bad!!  Anyway I was planning on installing the power steering lines and was told today that I should use Teflon tape on the pressure line.  What do ya’ll think??  Is the o-ring not enough??  Just curious . . .    :dontknow:

Thanks CP!  Now I have another question.  I just open the power steering line and one end is a male fitting and the other is a female but it looks like the line needs to have 2 male fittings???  Am I missing something or do you think I received the wrong part??

there should be a double ended flare fitting in the old steering box that you need to swap over to the new box

Thanks CP!  Well that is the old box actually so I need to find this piece.  Anyone have a pic as to what it looks like??  Is it brass??  This is the power steering unit I went with . . . its a Saginaw unit but not original.  Hopefully the line I have will fit.  Oh and what is the stud on the rear for??  Does something hook to it??  Thanks    :worship:

it should be readily available , brass will work should be just a double ended male flare fitting
the stud would have bolted to the factory rear mount

Thanks CP I can probably get on of those at the local hardware.  I assume I can find the piece for the fuel pump there also.  Time to go part hunting!   :burnout:

Well its the same situation.  I am going to run a hose from the new lines I just installed to the fuel pump. But the fuel pump doesn't have the proper connection . . must need another piece because I'll have a hard time trying to force the rubber hose in the hole.  (that didn't sound good  ::) )

ok you need a 1/4" pipe to 3/8" nipple with  , I use a 90* elbow to run the line up out of the fuel pump with the same size 1/4' pipe - 3/8" hose

Napa has the steel canister factory style , install it after the pump before the carb

4 cruzin, if your going that far with the chrome and nice brakcets etc along with the rest of your car, why dont you run AN fititngs and braided line  from the pump to the carb or regulator. Will look much nicer then rubber line slipped over a fitting and hose clamped... IMO
