Ok next question . . .today I went to install the hose connections for the heater core. . no problems, I tapped the holes to make sure the threads were in good condition and to remove any excess paint.   Installed the fittings and started looking at the hoses. One is smaller than the other but the outlet at the heater core. . . those pipes are the same size??  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure the smaller hose isn’t gonna fit!  Is there a reducer or something that needs to be added??

Now I'm getting ready to install the steering column and as I was thinking about finially securing the crush can to the column, I noticed a place for a wire and wondered if this is something I need to attach now or can I access it later.  Oh and what is it for??  horn?? ground??

This is gonna be a really long thread!   :ack:  :ack:  :ack:  :ack:   :dontknow:  :dontknow:  :dontknow:        :eekbig:  :eekbig:

4C,
I'm not much more useful than a wet blanket, but that wire on your steering column...there should be a black wire coming up thru one of the holes on either side. It would attatch to the ring in the center. this would just tie everything to gound so when you hit the horn, it would work. Now just where that wire comes from, I can't tell you, but I do know it's tied to ground, so maybe you can rig something up?

Thanks MEK.  I don't have any wires that aren't hooked to something or a loose black wire??  I need to dig out my wiring diagram.   :ack:  With the angle of the terminal, it looks like it feeds up toward the steering wheel?   :dontknow:

4C,
My deeeepest apologies.  Duh. :banghead: Yes, that wire I was talikng about comes from the steering wheel. It looks like there is something on your terminal already. Like a broken wire that was on previously. The steering column it'self is ground. I hope i didn't make matters worse :-[

Hey 4C, there were two different size hoses used, the one from the water pump to the core is 5/8" and the other to the engine from the core is 1/2" inside diameter. If this car ever had A/C,  the 1/2" hose would go on a water control valve from the engine and 5/8" to the heater core from the valve. But, that's for a 70 model, on the later ones the hose on the outlet of the water valve was 1/2" Confused yet? Not sure if you have an old A/C car or not but that's how it's suppose to work. Hope that makes some kind of sense!   Maybe you can just run two of the same hoses and put a different fitting in the engine.  :grinyes:

SO . . . yes I do have an old 70 air car and I guess that the solution is as you suggested Plum, if some type of fitting that will adapt to the 1/2 hose and not look stupid.

MEK so that wire goes to the steering wheel??  I just went out and dug up a old steering wheel and low and behold . . . there is a wire hookup on that to.  I have to assume that this wire is there to ground out the steering wheel??  I have a hard time understanding how the car can be grounded when it's sitting on tires??   :dontknow:

Thanks for everyone's help!!

to be continued . . . . .   :grinyes:

My appalogies I went out today , you need to solder a wire onto the termial , it feeds up through the crush can to the horn switch on the steering wheel & uses a very small female spade connector where it plugs onto the switch
as for the hose , use the smaller size hose , with a bit of silicone lube inside the hose it will spil onto the larger nipple , there is enough stretch in the rubber to expand over the larger nipple

OK well time for me to bump this thread cause I got like 40 days to get some things done and I'm gonna need some help.  First stupid question . . . Does the weatherstripping on the shaker glue to the baseplate?? If so . . is it some kind of rubber cement or something?? Tomorrow I'm going to try to install the glass so we'll be talkin' then for sure.  All help is greatly appreciated!!   :grinyes:  :grinno:  :grinyes:  :grinno:

I would HIGHLY suggest finding a good glass company in your area to install your windshield... it's NO easy task...and this way, you know it's done right...
