Dead Starter

I turn the ignition on and everything works; go to start and nothing. Sometimes it will work and I can trip the relay and it will start but I am getting tired of doing that. All fuses are good, wiring looks sound, the only thing I can think of is the switch itself is dorked, any ideas?? :clueless:

I had a similiar issue a few weeks ago. When I turned the key just got a loud CLICK . I thought it was the starter but after removing it and going through it  I found it was the main battery cable. It was the original from 1970 ( I assume?) and it had the" green death" inside of it when I cut it open. It looked fine untill I cut it open. I only found it after I tried to start it again after re installing the starter. A large spark came out of it.
I went to my local Chrysler dealer and ordered one from the resoration cataloge.... came in the next day. Installed it and away it went!

I have a new starter and all cables. The wierd thing is it only does it if its sits for a long time. I'm going to order a new switch. I would like to get rid the steering column and put one in with tilt so when I do that I will get a new switch installed. I hear a painless wiring kit calling my name.

if you can get the starter to work jumping the relay then either the yellow power wire to the relay is not getting power or the brown ground wires is not grounding , if it is an auto it grounds at the neutral safety switch in the trans & those plugs can get very hard & intermittent when 40 years old , this would be the most likely problem , often the plug will just work loose , you can buy new harnesses . The last possibility & sencond most likely  is the relay itself has a bad contact  .

Now thats interesting Chryco.  I was trying to start it without the shifter or anything installed in the console.  I did the conversion on the shifter and installed everything and it fired up by using the switch.  That has to be it! Now, how do i by -pass it so I dont have to worry with it ever?

 :banghead:  Oh right! You have Keisler's A=41 conversion! Duhhh on me!  :smilielol:  That makes scence.
So how do you permanatly bypass the NSS ? :clueless:

I was having intermittent starting problems when my NSS was flakey.
Probably not the safest, but I just grounded the wire directly.

Definitely need to be careful and MAKE sure the car is in park or neutral before starting.

LOL, all good Brad. By the way, I just noticed (or was tentative) to your sig block. Shoot me some pics of your Buick (kylewhunt1@yahoo.com). I love Regals, especially GNs. I have a GN now, looking at maybe buying another one this weekend.

I just sold the Buick about a month ago. With the proceeds I'm building a 451" and looking seriously at the
