Phantastic Inspiration

So a good part of the reason that I jumped at the opportunity to get my black 'cuda is that i was first inspired down the Mopar path by the movie Phantasm years ago. Didn't even know what kind of car it was back then, but knew I had to have one someday.., So I've been tooling around Grand Forks in this sweet ride, and recently watched the original movie with my old buddy here. Let me tell you, it's a gas. The acting is laughable bad, the special effects are VERY 1978, and the shots of the '71 are super beautiful. So check it out. I didn;t even have any beers and I laughed my butt off. Seriously, I have no more butt. I need to order a new one from Amazon.
    That's all for now. Even though mine is a '73 I can still pretend I am being pursued my killer Jawa-like creatures driving a hearse. of course, it's North Dakota, so I always drive the speed limit.

There are something like 4 sequels to Phantasm, and some of them also have the black Cuda, although I don't know if they really used the same car.

I saw that movie at the drive in theatre with my dad when I was a kid. Between the jawas in star wars and the scrunched drones in that movie I was jumpin 3 feet from the bed to go pee at night.

   They are little and brown and low to the ground!!!

Great post JohnKo.  The first film back in the summer of 1979 and the black 71 cuda made a major impression on me way back then.  The only defense from the tall man was the black 71 cuda.

No he was not in it, I think your thinking of Stuart Whitman he kinda looks like him. Janet Leigh was in it too. Giant mutant rabbits terrorize a small town. Best line in the whole movie "Ladies and gentlemen Attention!! There is a herd of killer rabbits headed this way..."

Totally thrilled at the twists this thread has taken. Thanks for the giggles and a great new film to see!!! My buddy will be thrilled, we've been subjecting each other to horrible films since we were 6. And now we are both in our early forties. Our favorite recent one is 'Rubber' about a killer tire. Yup, that's what I said. It's also a film about being a film, so be ready for a post post conceptual narrative, or some such nonsense. It's pretty funny at any rate. And was NOT made by M. Night Shamalamadingdong, whose 'horror' movies I consistently feel cheated by.

I have the movie had it for years, Think it would make a great remake!! Too bad too Bruce cambell would make a great older brother. See they are finally remaking "The Thing" hope they don.t screw it up with McReady part being a chick and all who knows I loved the 80's version. Spose to come out next month.

The 80's version of "The Thing" is one of my all time favorate movies I'm looking forward to seeing the latest one. Any MST3K fans here?
