correct 72-74 brake booster/PCV hose...anyone interested?
« on: September 09, 2011 - 04:37:20 PM »
The correctly worded booster/PCV hose for the 70's and 71's is available new.  No one however is offering the correct hose for the later years.  73 and 74 are similar but may not be exactly the same.  I don't know about 72.  If anyone has the original booster/PCV hose from 72-74 please take a picture of it and post it.

1970-71 is worded something like this.....GATES C 11/32 INCH FS-1 SAE
1973 is worded like this.....H. K. PORTER COMPANY INC. SAE J 1403 TYPE LGB2

Today I talked to the owner of a graphics/sign shop and showed him the original booster hose off of my 73 Challenger.  He said that he would be able to make me a vinyl stencil to duplicate the wording.  The stencil would be placed on a new hose, then it would be misted with yellow paint.  He would scan my original hose and import it into a drawing program where he could draw on top of the image to get the font and spacing correct.

To accually design the first stencil would run around $50 with the stencil itself running about $20.  I'd like to see if anyone else would be interested in a stencil.  Obviously the more I buy the cheaper it will be.  Right now I've got one other person interested.  It won't take many people to get the price down.  I'm also looking into having a stencil made for the ECU with the part# and date code.  That would be much cheaper then the hose stencil.

Please let me know if anyone is interested so I can decide if it's worth the cost.  The original hoses weren't stenciled so there may be some slight variations in the look of the hose but I think it would be better then nothing at all.

Darren

We should do a stencil for the spark plug wires with date code, since no one repos them with the date codes after 1-72.

70-71 used the same hose for the booster and the PCV valve...I thought all years did.  I replaced the original PCV hose back in the 90's.   My booster hose still has the original red corbin clamps on it.(the same style that is used on the heater hoses...just plated red)
