The battery for the Challenger is now in the boat as it's too hot to drive much this time of year. I switch it back in the cooler months but would like to keep her mobile just in case of an emergency like a wildfire or something. Maybe a dumb question but would an old school mopar with electronic ignition bump start with no battery though the cables connected?
A mopar will run without a battery. The alternator will self-excite but your battery provides a load and reference voltage to keep the voltage from going sky high. I once let my car idle while I pulled the battery out to start another car. All of the light were on. (70 Challenger, about 16 bulbs) I looked at the car and all the lights were off and car was still running. It blew out every single light bulb. I had to drive home with brights on and nothing else.
I always have a good WalMart 9 year battery in my cars with a ground disconnect post on the Neg terminal. Turn the knob, start the car, get away from the wildfire. Just like a fire extinguisher. Why only have one for the house and the garage when you can afford to have one in each spot.
