Convenient replacement mini starter?
« on: September 10, 2011 - 02:00:58 PM »
My starter has failed on the Cuda. Am looking for quick replacement from local parts store.  Is there a preferred make and model year that is best choice? It looks like the 94-99 Dodge truck looks most like the one I have but most places have to order it. If I am going to order I was thinking of DB electrical with a one year warranty. I know its probably a China rebuild, thoughts on these?

Also, my starter cable is looking it's age. Are these still available with the molded connectors on the end?

The Battery cable is still available new from Mopar , Talk to Dave @ Roseville
the starters I use are the late 80s truck starter , you will have to mess with the molded end on the + battery cable so getting a new one with the mini may not be such a good Idea !!
 do you have headers ?

I have a DB starter and just bought and installed a new cable from my local  Dodge dealer. It's in the Mopar restoration or MP catalog. I didn't have to mess with the molded end, bolted right on!  :2thumbs:  You just have to remove that plastic "extension" on the starter

Thanks guys. Yes, have Hooker Super Comps and had to disconnect left tie rod arm to get it out. Still not as bad as it might have been with the full size model.

I have headmans and I have to either drop the header or remove the steering column to get mine out. Steering column only takes about 10 minutes to remove!

Wow -  seems a little extreme to pull a starter but sounds like you have mastered the routine! On the cable, I checked Daves website and only found a repo set for over $250? You had mentioned these were still available from Mopar? What was pricing on these?

I agree it was under $50 ,2 weeks ago, and here in Canada we get taxed up the backside!
Part # I used is #02983649 out of Mopar performance cataloge ( it has a new orange SRT on the cover)

Thanks! Is that number 02983649 for big blocks?  I see another listed for E-bodys with 340 for nearly twice as much. Mine is very simple, only has two leads and is about 32" long. Wondering if the cheaper big block cable will work for me? It sure looks like it would be long enough.

Nothing wrong with DB electric starters. They are NOT remanufactured and work quite well plus the price is right. I know a few Mopar guys that swear by them. I've used them and never had a problem with them. If you want to spend a little more then Powermaster makes a variety of starters for Mopar applications. The basic street model is around $185.00 bucks and If I recall a DB electric mini starter is about $70.00 bucks. Big difference if price and now everything is made in China!! Ugh.... Good luck!  :2thumbs:

I sent this guy a message and he sold me direct for $60 delivered, all his auctions end up $65-70

Yes it's listed for 70-71 with a big block. Weird don't know why a small block cable would be so much more? :dunno:
