Tremec T56 6 speed in my Challenger
« on: September 11, 2011 - 01:31:03 AM »
Yet another one going down the Tremec 6 speed route on my E body. :ylsuper:
I kept quiet until the lions share of the work was over- rather than pontificate about it lots online.
I intend to fully chronicle the transplant along with my low deck stroker-6 pack build at my website (in time)
www.auto-scape.com
For reference I used the Magnum TRG-11009 with tall ratio top (0.63).I'm not a drag racer- the big block Chrysler is a big engine- and the E body isnt really heavy by todays standards so I prefer tall gearing when cruising.
In the meantime here are some pictures of the progress:

Your going to love it once you get it on the road.
Did you go with the .5 6th gear?

Actually 0.63, 0.5 would have been nice though. I'll probably go for a tall rear end. This has blown my budget for the year (for this project) so I'm sticking with the 8-3/4 rear end probably with a 3.23 ratio (until I substitute the wedge for a Hemi).
The low deck wedge with smaller 2.62 mains and 2.2 inch Chevy big ends (low friction) , with the 6 speed and a 6 pack with progressively tuned primaries should put me in good stead for cruising fuel economy  :angelwings:

Of course I'll keep you all posted.
The car is out getting the tunnel metal work fabricated. I'm a little worried that the newly constructed cross member is so think that typical TTi/flowmaster etc  exhaust systems will now foul. I don't recall what the exhaust system does when it goes past where the transmission cross member is and how close it is to it as stock.

I'm now considering getting the frame connecttors and lower rad support down also.

I'm REALLY excited about driving a manual muscle car. Since moving to the USA Ive mainly driven automatics. The thought of ALL that torque easily accessible with a 6 speed- changing down to really tap into the torque whenever I want is very seductive!

Here is a cross member that I made for a 6 speed install.  We drilled the isolation mount hole afterward and used the taller Ford poly mount.

looks like the shifter handle will be a fair bit forward of the original shifter position ?

I think you're probably right. It's a good thing i'm short and my seat will be forward!
I've been side tracked with other projects but intend to refocus on this again. Will keep you all updated!
