you could build a junkyard dana for 1100

Ya I'm on "the prowl" for one. Kinda scarce around my neck of the woods though.

I can't waste anymore time or money. A "junkyard" piece is completely out of the question.

:clapping: Watching this post as I might be in the market for a Dana 60 too if funds permit after the engine build.  What do you all think of the True trac for a Dana 60?

The "E locker" looks interesting too. You can switch the locker on and off with a electromagnet. That would be handy on wet roads?

Bump... anyone have an opinion on these two designs? :dunno:

I  just sent a e-mail to Dr Diff ( Cass) for a quote, so I'll let you know what he says....

true trac I think is the worm gear one , awesome design , I fell in love with it at least 2 decades ago when I first saw it , perfect for front wheel drive

So it would be a "upgrade" from the original stock set up in your opinion? Stronger?

Wow Cass is quick! :2thumbs:
here is the quote I asked him for! ( also asked him about my M/C when running a hydroboost)

Hi Brad,

Here is an itemized list of options:

Base price, new, bolt-in S-60 assy 54.25" wide housing, 44" perches on center, 3.54, 3.73 or 4.10 Spicer gears 35 spline axles, 5 x 4 1/2" bolt pattern 2" studs, Timken set 20 tapered wheel bearings 1350 U-bolt yoke $1875

Upgrade to Detroit True-Trac $300

Add repro pinion snubber $75

Add cover/girdle $120

DoctorDiff Challenger 1" offset spring hanger/shackle kit $175

Estimated shipping to PA (business address with loading dock or fork lift) $200

All parts are very strong.  The assembly fits nicely with 10" wide wheels, 5" of backspacing and MT Sportsman S/R 28/12/15 true radial tires.

You must bore the center out of your backing plates to 3.160" for the large diameter tapered wheel bearings.  Otherwise, everything will bolt on.

You must switch to a 1 1/8" bore master if you want to run a hydro-boost.

Please call for more information.

Thanks,

Cass (406)883-4772

Yeah the true trac is an awesome design 100% locking under power but unlocks with the slightest input from the wheel going around corners etc .
20 yeas ago I was looking for a 440 around toronto , none to be found , a typical new vehicle is tough to make last 6 years in that climate , the last factory 440 was installed in 78 , this was back in 86 , none to be found , any big block vehicles had been crushed already , fast forward to 2011 , mid 80s truck are long gone in the area where Brad is

Thanks Neil!
Ya I have called 3 wrecking yards with no luck so far. Funny though via Kijiji 440 and 400's seem easy to find though?  I'll keep looking though, every days comes with new stuff!

What would be the best ratio with these gears in the tranny? I was thinking 3:73?
3.06:1 First
1.63:1 Second
1.00:1 Third
0.70:1 Fourth

it depends if you want quick or fast , I went with 3.54 but 3.73 will work fine , first gear will be a short one though
