6 small Holes above rear lenses 70 RT for??

I am putting my 70 chally R/T back together and there are 6 evenly spaced small holes across the back of the rear just above the taillight lenses and just below the trunk latch line. Holes look very clean and spaced & appear factory.
Little history, the car was totally hippied out in the 70's shag carpet in the inside everywhere, side mirrors put on the front fenders, and two tone paint. The whole back panel was heavily paiinted black paint and inside just sprayed with the facoty cream color till it ran and coated everything in its path (nothing was taken apart for painting). I tore it all down and had it blased. I notived the holes then. Now that I have it almost all back together, I cannot figure out what they are there for.

I can get pics if it would help, but figured someone with a 70 that could take a look let me know if there should be there and wwhat they are for, or if I need to plusg em.

Anyone help?

Those holes are for a small thin panel that attaches and fills a void between the body and the bumper.  I don't know what the panel is called.  It is almost not visible and I've heard that later models did not have the panel.  If I can find a picture I will post it.  PK

Thanks, I know what that piece it is below the lenses and I have that one installed. These holes are above the lenses.

Maybe it had the SE trim panel.  Are these on the top of the tail light panel or right above the lenses where thery can be seen with the trunk closed?

They are right above the tail lenses all the way across the back where they can be seen if you look with th trunk down.
When I got the car it had originally the SE inserts int he door panel and lot sof the chrome trim, but no vinyl top, although i know it had been repinted and modified based on what the second owner did to it. I did find lines and holes near the side or the rear windows across to the back window, but assumed it was due to body work at some point in the past. The second owner who customized the car and modified it, also kept the and lost the fender tag so I am trying to uncover what the mysteries are (which is kinda fun). It has all original matching drivetrain and pretty much all the parts n peices, btu these holes are mystery.

Thanks for input 6Pak, looks like you could order a hardtop with the SE trim.

Can someone with the SE trim panel confirm the 6 holes are used for this piece. These are not holes in the trunk for the trunk moulding I had that, these are in the tail piece .
Looks like this piece is hard to find and $$$$ so I like ot have 100% confirmation before I try and find one.

Someone apparently got creative with your car. The S/E tail piece doesn't have holes in that location. It has 3 clips on each quarter trim and mounts like the stock quarter trim molding does. Then there are holes along the top of it, but you can't see those with the trunk closed.

Sounds like the holes are larger than I thought.  MEK is right about the SE moulding.  The holes for the center of the moulding are small for philips screws.  Sounds like someone was doing their own thing with your car.  The best thing would be to take pics of the holes and post them.

The good news is an S/E panel would cover those holes that you speak of. I really don't know if anyone is re-popping these now. I just know I paid more than I should have for a NOS panel 7 or 8 years ago.

too bad you did not ask before , you could have easily welded the holes when doing the bodywork

They are for the SE moulding.  I looked at an old tail light panel from a factory SE here.  Do you have a fender tag or build sheet for your car?
