727 install pulling my hair out
« on: September 12, 2011 - 12:09:44 AM »
ok so this weekend I drop in the motor and a transmission, I don't have a lift but plenty of floor jacks and jackstands. LOL, I dropped the tranny in first thru the engine bay and then the motor and go to mate them. well I have a problems I am, not sure if I am just screwing this up or what but I can not get the transmission to mate up to the motor, I know they fit as the transmission is the one that came with it (motorhome motor and transmission I had the tranny rebuilt to work in the challenger, and got a highstall torgue converter, when I even get them close it feels like I am fighting the flex plate and the tq converter, I spun the torgues converter on the shaft of the transmission like 10 timebefore dropping the motor in, tried to mate them up I can get the top 4 bolts started but the bottom two I can start but them to tighten them down I am putting way too much pressure to tighten them, I broke them free again lowered the transmission got under the car and spun the tq converter again just to make sure that I have it seated all the way in. does this sound like I got the wrong tq converter, or just screwing this all up.  I took the week off to get the car going and looks like I might be spending all week getting a transmission in

a side note:  when I went to go turn the motor to turn the torgue coverter the engin would not budge.but did after I broke them free

What I usually do is hold the converter in both hands and repeatedly bump it in while slowly turning it until it hits the pump and engages. Kinda like that first time in the back of the old man's Dodge if ya know what I mean!  :naughty:
