Vanishing point on Blu Ray
« on: September 15, 2011 - 08:50:24 AM »
I just bought Vanishing point on Blu Ray and watched it on my 1080p hi def T.V. and can not believe the quality. The detail is so incredible. You can clearly see the 440 magnum on the hood. I have no ide how they took an old movie and made it so clear. I  hope they release Dirty Mary Crazy Larry on Blu Ray.

For all you Vanishing Point fans, cut to the crash scene at the end and slow the action down.  As the hood flies off, no scoops, it's a camaro hood.  A few seconds later as a person walks through the wreckage, note the "Camaro" badging upside down in the lower left corner.  These guys were smart enough not to waste a Challenger in that last scene, they destroyed a Camaro!!!!!!

Has been out for a while and is readily available pretty much anywhere. Isn't a limited release/special order or anything. Can be bought direct from Amazon.

jh23job, here's a resized avatar. That's a nice shot, BTW.

I picked up my copy for $16.00 on Ebay. Has anyone ever seen the cover of the first release on vhs? You wouldn't have even known it was a car movie, because it shows Barry Newman walking on the beach with his wife. I have attached a pic of the camaro that was used in the ending.

I have no ide how they took an old movie and made it so clear.

All commercial movies are shot better than hi-def, then downgraded to fit the limits of the medium on which they're being distributed.  Blu-ray simply has more bandwith and needs little downgrading.

This is very true. When I have film professionally scanned, I can get huge files and incredible amounts of detail from it.

The only time this wouldn't be true for older movies is stuff that was made on the cheap, using 16mm film stock. 16mm has about one fourth of the image area of 35mm, so there's a lot less data there.
