73 Barracuda Tail light Wiring Diagram & Help Needed
« on: September 20, 2011 - 12:05:00 PM »
The wife was following me home the other day and told me the only light working correctly was the outer passenger side one, she said the driver side brake light wasn't working.  So when we got home I had her run through the lights while I stood behind the car and it turns out the inner two lights aren't lighting up at all, and the driver side light goes out completely when the brakes are on.  The original owner towed a boat with the car so there are lots of splices in the harness in the trunk.  Does anyone have a wiring diagram they could share showing the trunk lights? and I'm a total novice trouble-shooting electrical problems so any advice there would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jim

if one light goes out when the brakes are on you have a bad ground on that light & it is using the park light circuit for ground

Listen to what Chryco just said, bad ground. I always solder a long black wire to each tail lamp socket then ground it theeo the body somewhere with star washers and a sheetmetal screw. The weatherstripping usually isolates the tail lights from the body. Verify the bad ground with a jumper wire from the socket to the body metal.
