  • Cheap
  • Fast
  • High Quality

Pick any two.

Porsche GT3, lotus,
And what's the price and practicality of those?  At least with the 2012 392 you can haul a family of 4 plus a couple coolers of food/beer to the dragstrip, then run mid 12s.  Throw some slicks on and probably get close to 11s on a good night.

I never understood why they couldn't find a real solution to cut down on the weight either. They just load cars up so much now, the old cars didn't even have cup-holders, I mean, why not just get back to that point (cut out most luxuries). You want a car that just has two purposes, to go fast, and look great. I guess that would cut down on the amount of buyers, but it would be nice for a lot of other people.

I also wish they made a two door version of the new Charger :(.
1970 Challenger SE - in the shop for metal work.
1970 'Cuda AAR - driving till the Chally gets back.

Yeah the new charger design looks great would be even better if it also had a 2-door option. I would like to see a modern designed late 50's style winged fury retro. I could probably hand draw a neat one imagine a modern one with the wings but stealthier looking.

Well I look at the price, weight and power, then looks..when I buy a sports car..the new challenger is nice, but it's way too heavy and cost too much..for what they run..I liked the concept better than the one they made ..it had a cuda look to it..

The Challenger is not built to be a sports car, just like the original was not.  Why people expect it to be a sports car today baffles me.  Just like the original, it's an upscale performance car.  If you want lightweight (relatively speaking), quit bi***ing and get a Mustang, otherwise, enjoy the new Challengers for what they are, not what you want them to be.

When the SRT ame out, it was a $60K and up car. Sounds like a Sports Car price tag...Handles like a sports car...Runs like a sports car....Has giant wheels like a sports car...Has the HP like a sports car....Hmmmmm I wonder why an upscale Performance car has a price tag of an upscale Sports car?

I remember when $60K would by you a baddass Vette..A Sports car.

No, it was a $45K car that people were foolish enough to spend $60K on.  Also, are you saying an Audi A6 or BMw M5 are sports cars?  they meet all the requirements above.

However, what's stopping everyone from taking weight out of the car themselves?  Pull the interior and remove all the heavy insulation.  Gut the trunk exc...  Buy a car without a sunroof to start with.

Maybe do something like this on a Challenger. I know it would be hard to buy a $34K car and take all that stuff out that makes them cost that much but it all depends on how hardcore you are about performance. At least you could turn the seats, carpet, console, air bags, OEM wheels/tire into cash by selling them on Ebay or to a re-seller.

Like said before....if you want a late model mopar sports car, start with a regular challenger, strip out a lot of weight, and then tear the top off to make it a convertible.
Voila....you'll have your own one of a kind custom sports car.
