Wheels and tires
« on: September 29, 2011 - 02:39:17 PM »
Hey Guys,

I'm looking to get new wheels and tire for my 71 Challenger.  Below is the link to what I'm looking to get.  Will they fit with out sticking out?  Right now I have steel wheels 15 X 7's with 255/15's on the back and 15 X 7's with 245/15's on the front, with no rubbing issues.  I just want to avoid the tires from sticking out or rubbing.  I'm just old school and I'm not into the tall wheels like they are doing today.  I had the Torque Thrust wheels on a previous car and loved them but the Challenger is a convertible and it's going to be bright yellow with a black spoiler, black shaker and black top so I wanted wheels with black centers to contrast the other black on the car.  American Racing Torque Thrust II's come only with grey centers.

483-5809 15x8 on 5x4.5, 5x4.75, 5x5 -6 mm 4.25 1580 lbs. 28 lbs  -  I'm just not sure if I should go with a 255 or 275 tire? Any opinions or pictures would be helpful.  Thanks

Also the bolt pattern is 5 X 4.5 correct?

Dave

How close are your fronts to rubbing right now?

I have heard that 245/60R15s are the max most can go on the front because that's a relatively tall tire.

The stock rims are 6mm offset (4.25" backspace).  Going to a 0 offset will move the rim 1/4" out.  Will the tire rub anywhere on the front if its 1/4" more out?

On the back, I had 255/60s on 15x8s with 0 offset (4.5" backspace) and it fit fine.  Probably could have gone to 275s no problem, but I did like the stance.  I had 235s in front.

My front tires don't rub now so maybe the 1/4" won't matter?  However I'm also changing from the stock fenders to Goodmark fenders.

Does anyone with Goodmark fenders have 245's on the front?

Thanks
