Yellowstone Park road trip Sept 2011
« on: September 29, 2011 - 11:04:19 PM »
Cruised the Challenger on a 600 mile road trip thru Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.  There is a lot to see, but hard to include photos of the car.
The car ran well, but the engine did not like the unsilenced air cleaner on the 30 degree mornings and 7000 foot elevation (no hot air pick up).  Have to change air cleaners for this fall driving.
We saw one 57 Chevy; but no other classic cars and ours was the only muscle car on the whole trip.
A lot of heads turned as we went by and many thumbs up.  All in all a good ride.

Great pics!  Like the plate number too.   :2thumbs:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Such a beautiful place! My family and I used to go out there all the time, seems so long ago now. Driving around in a Challenger would sure add to the experience, I'm sure :D!

The crowds were not too bad really, but lodging in the park was not as available as it was in mid-August.  Tour buses were filling every room now (late Sept).
For late September, things were starting to shut down.  Tour buses filled every room at the Old Faithful Inn, and all the other lodging was filled also.  So we stayed at Madison campground, but checked in by early afternoon.   The O.F. Inn closes in about 10 days, the gas station at O.F. closes in 2 weeks, the Madison campground is open until mid October.  There is lodging, fuel, food at West Yellowstone year around, it is 15 miles west of Madison campground and only 30 miles from Old Faithful.   If there is not an early heavy snowfall the Park roads stay open thru the first week of November, but there is no loding, fuel, etc.   By then the empty roads are all yours!!

Beautiful Pics!  I see several calendar contenders  :ylsuper:
Alright, seriously, 600 miles, did you place a pillow under your butt or something that made the seat somewhat comfortable?  Cruising around town is okay, but, I couldn’t imagine a 600 mile trip in an OE seat.  Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks again for posting.  I bet ya’ll had a great time.  A road trip that you’ll never forget.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

We had no problems with the seats.  My wife thinks they are perfect, I think they are a little soft.  The seats had been reupholstered by the previous owner; I did not look at them during the resto, just put them back in the car.  According to this forum, the early years had more seat bottom springs than the later years, so my 74 has the "fewer" springs.   I'm a little concerned the fabric will be overstretched and eventually tear, due to the softness.  Time will tell.  The wife likes them, so I'm leaving them.

I think it is totally cool that you got a picture  of Old Faithful erupting  behind the chally.

Definitely some cool pictures!
