Ahoy from Arizona!
« on: September 30, 2011 - 01:54:09 AM »
Hey gang, my name is Justin and I'm new to Mopar.  I just bought a 1973 Challenger with a stock 318 in it about a month and a half ago.  The only mod I've done so far is a set of fuzzy dice in the mirror.  The go-fast parts shouldn't be too far off though.  Anyway, I'm glad to be here and I hope you don't mind me picking your brains every now and again.

-Justin

I'm in Tucson, which is finally starting to cool down (if you call 91 degrees "cool").

Here are some pictures I just snapped:

Nice looking Chally!  That red comes across as eye piercing - which is cool.

Your first mod looks awesome;  I like the way you matched it to the vinyl roof

Seriously, though, your Chally looks great.  From the pics, I don’t see any mods/upgrades that you can actually do.
Do you have any mods/upgrades planned?

Love the Red & White.  That was the same color combination Challenger my uncle (Dodge Salesperson) lent to my dad back in 1970 that made me love the car.

WELCOME.

Thanks for the compliments!  The only engine mods I plan on doing are a 4bbl carburetor, an aluminum intake, and headers/exhaust.  It has to pass emissions, so I can't go too overboard.  I was thinking of going with a black interior/top, but we'll see what I think when next summer rolls around when it's 110 outside.

It's supposed to be both, but when I got it emissioned when I first registered it, they only did the sniffer test.  The visual inspection consists of making sure emission parts are still there (PCV valve, EGR valve, fuel vapor canister, etc).  I imagine they only check under the hood if you fail, but I don't really know.

Wow I'm surprised to hear that. Around here they only do 1988 and newer. No tests at all for anything older.

Arizona's emissions is for 1967 and newer, but it's only in the Tucson and Phoenix areas.  Everywhere else, your car can run on coal apparently and it doesn't matter.
