Turn signal flasher -LED
« on: September 30, 2011 - 06:04:19 PM »
Hey all,

Need some quick help with my LED front turn signals. I'm installing a LED flasher unit to stop the quick flashing that LED's do with a normal flasher unit.

Car is a 74 Cuda, Rallye Dash, and original flasher unit works with no problems.

I got the two prong Grote 44891 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GTE-44891 to replace the original unit, The Grote is made for LED's, original is just a stock flasher.

Aftermarket fits like original, only thing different is the white wire coming from the top. The flasher unit plugs into the factory connection with a red power wire and a black ground like the original.  I grounded the white wire coming out of the top unit (several different locations) and nothing works. The Tech line stated it was a ground wire and sent me a new unit as he thought prior flasher was bad. Same thing with new flasher, no turn signals.

If the white wire is a ground, why would the new unit need a second ground?

Any ideas on how to get the flasher to work?

Thanks, Mike

Not sure the resolution to your problem, however I did cover this off-the-shelf flasher replacement that works with LED tail lights in my 'Cuda. Direct swap

Hope that helps if you can't figure the other flasher out.

Thanks Goody,

I figured it out after searching google for a while and found a random link. Its appears that the turn signal system doesn't create enough amps to work that LED flasher, New flasher has a 1 amp min. I bought one kinda like yours from a local auto parts store, Tridon EL12. Works perfect.

Thanks again,

-Mike
