Cool story thanks

Great story
Makes me curious as to why it went down in the first place.
Hope it wasnt some sort of mechanical failure!
Ironically though, crashing in that lake at least saved the plane for history.
I knew we gave a lot of materials and weapons to the russians, but didnt know we gave them 10,000 air cobras.
Imagine that delivery by UPS. Must have taken all afternoon.

Cool vid, I am sure the remains were soviet as the last star painted was soviet. Many plains built by the Ruskies after that plane had the multiple cannon, mixed armarments.

Ah yes the Bell Aircobra, part of the Lend-Lease act of WWII. They flew them up the North West staging route  thru BC and the Yukon to Alaska. The white US star was painted over when they got to Alaska were they were handed over to the Russians. There is a photo in  our Yukon transportation museum showing several dozen P-39 Aircobras, P-38 lightnings and Douglas A-20 Havocs's.
