70 Cuda tailight panel paint and chrome trim question
« on: October 07, 2011 - 11:33:04 AM »
Bought a 70 340 Cuda that needs paint and have three questions;
1. Did all 70 340 Cuda's come with chrome tailight panel trim?
2. Is the correct tailight panel color Satin Black?
3. Need to know how much of tailight panel should be black, where does black stop and body color start?

Cudas got the trim and blackout barracudas did not.  The paint is called "Organisol" and is kind of a funky texture, it is NOT satin black originally.
The bodycolor break is right at the chrome trim.

I'm not an expert on the Cudas' but I know the Grand Coupes had the chrome trim.  It may have been an option on all Cuda/Barracudas.

MY GC just had the trim on the trunk and quarter rear edges nothin on the tail panel. But I know there is a member here who had the cuda trim from the factory.

70 - 71 Grand coupe cudas got the quarter panel and trunk chrome trim ( the same that was used on the 72 - 74 cudas ) The 70-71 cudas got the 4 piece " wrap around " chrome trim that goes around the tail panel not on the 1/4 panels  and on the trunk lip Grand coupe trim is also much wider than the cuda pieces
 Hope this helps

In addition to the Gran Coupe trim being wider, the Gran Coupe's rear tail lamp panel was painted the same silver as the grill; the 'Cudas's rear panel was painted the Organisol black.

You can get the Organisol paint from Totally Auto: http://www.totallyautoinc.com/paints.html
It comes in a spray can and applies very evenly.  One can will do it, as it is kinda pricey ($25 per).
It has a textured finish and some highlights that show in bright sun.  It looks a lot better than trim black paint.
