aar antenna
« on: October 09, 2011 - 08:23:33 PM »
Bringing up a real old topic to see if anyone has new input. I plan
on relocating my antenna to the rear quarter and there seems to be differing opinions
as to the necessity of the bracket or large plate that attaches under the
panel. Anybody have any input to share?

I would add something for re-enforcement so if pressure is put on the antenna the panel will not buckle

 :iagree:

I moved mine and I won't put the mast on until I add something in there to support the base, it moves around a lot more than you expect it to.

 This is correct
repo of an aar antenna with the mounting hardware. The chrome bezal is missing to prevent it from falling thru the hole.

Andy

AAR's do not have the plate with bracket attached, that must be a aftermarket item.

check out this antenna. It has the correct bezel. Look at the bezel how it locks into the bracket. The bezel has fingers that lock and adjust the mast angle inside of the bracket.

If you have everything but the mounting bracket I guess it would work.

With that bracket I can't see how you will adjust the antenna to its correct angle..

Yeah, I have read quite a few posts and some say it is correct and
others say it was like an add-on. I have read posts that say you can tweak the quarter slightly if you
don't have it. Sounds to me like it was a TSB change. The plate looks like that horseshoe bracket
would fit through it and give more surface area for the antenna to flex against, making a larger
area a bit more rigid. I don't know if flexing was a problem or not.

Never had any problems with my AAR.
No metal fatigue. It is all in the bezel locking into the bracket.

I wouldn't do any treaking on the body.

I would ask for a picture of underside for the fingers to lock into bracket
