Center console question
« on: October 11, 2011 - 01:23:17 PM »
Hi,
is it correct that the early production '71 Challenger got the '70 style console? I know an early '71 Challenger (SPD = september) with an '70 console, could that be right?

Never say never with Mother Mopar.

I have heard at least one member here say he has a 70 console in his 71. It probably didn't happen often though.

The top plates also got an extra hole right next to the shift handle starting in 71.

It is like many things.  It did not start with the first 71 car.  It is generally accepted that it is a 71 thing although late 70 cars may have had the screw added.  To get technical the 70 console also had a strap from the body to the lid to restrict how far the lid opened.  72 up consoles had seat belt straps on the sides.

Me too.   :grinyes:

That's a small thing, but good to have. It makes you wonder how much $$ they saved by eliminating that small part??   :clueless:

Just so I understand.... The 70 had a slot for the seat belts and 71+ had an ash tray in the rear of the console?  Thanks
