A little project of mine
« on: October 13, 2011 - 09:32:52 AM »
I bought a model of a 69 Daytona a few months ago with the intention of painting it Go Mango and giving it a showroom finish. When I got it home I noticed that some of the parts didn't fit together very well, so I stuck it in a corner and let it sit until last week.

I've never built a 'barn find' model before but thought I would give it a shot. It's almost finished but I still might add a few plug wires and other underhood wires before I call it completely done.

That thing is sweet! I like the driveshaft in the front seat.

I got the driveshaft idea from one of the pics that NCtrueconservative posted of his Challenger with the drive shaft sitting on the transmission hump. I'm actually thinking of making a little diorama with a few of the left over parts from a couple of Challenger and Cuda models I've built.

That's pretty cool.  If you have some extra tires you could sand the bottom of them so it looks like they're flat.

That's another thing I was thinking of. I might heat up the tires so I get the excess rubber bulging out at the bottom.

I would try heating up an aluminum plate to flatten the tires.  Fun project.

If the tires are soft enough, maybe you could put some silicon on the inside....put the rim on and compress the tire with a clamp.  Let it sit over night.  The silicon might hold the tire in the compressed position.

Very cool.  I really like to build these type of models.  I got a bunch of them done and in different dioramas but my home computer has crashed and I don't have a way to post pictures.  Besides a bunch of mopars I have been doing old trucks also.  Have to see if I can fiqure out how to post some pics.

Those are some pretty sweet dioramas. What do you use for bushes? I was looking in a hobby shop for scale stuff, but it all seemed to be for small scale trains.

Agreed, Its gotta have at least one flat tire on it. With weeds stuck in the lip.

I flattened the back tires by heating up a piece of metal tube with my welder and then setting the tire on the hot metal.

I also made up a basic diorama for it, but as I get more models built I'll probably do something bigger.

I hacked up a TA exhaust I had sitting around too.

That is cool. I think I now have a project for some old models that didn't get finished due to non fitting, broken, or lost parts.

Any tips on the paint techniques?
