the piston clearance to the pin should be the same either way as it floats in the rod & piston , in a floating system . You still have to fix the rod problem though .

That's how I was thinking too? Oh I agree I'm not assembling the rods like that!

Brad, did you get the rods with the bushings already sized?
Who sized them if not?
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Yes Muscle Motors supplied the whole kit, rods, pistons, crank, etc,,,
They sized the rods for the wrist pins.

typically it is .0006-.0009 Brad.  Should feel like a slight thumb pressure press fit.
Yes, have to push it thru with your thumb.  That is exactly how I was taught to fit the pins, and that is how the local machinist fit my pins to rods.  As suggested have new rod bushings installed and fit to the pins.  I Also roll the piston edges to help eliminate hot spots.
My eagle rods were all just a touch tight to the pins, so carefully worked the rod bushings to make the fit perfect.  Sorry to hear your having to go the other way.

Price I got from a local machine shop was $20 a rod plus the cost of the bushings. Funny Muscle didn't ever phone me back. I assume they are hoping I'll just go away or forget about it? :grinno: I'll try phoning them tomorrow again. Yesterday no one was answering the phones when I tried? :dunno:

Ah.. not your fault! I just got in touch with Eric and he tried to say up to .002 was ok? :grinno:
I said how about I mail you back the rods and you send me another set and I'll take care of fitting the bushings, he agreed to that so that's what the plan is now. I'm gonna have to eat the postage but that's better/cheaper than bushing the rods . I hope?
Ya I haden't heard that name ( Beatty and Woods) in a long time. I have no idea if they are still in business or not? They were big time into Mopar engines at one point? I had seen a few stock car race engines that they had done. Nice work! ...... Sometimes a little TOO nice from a Tech inspectors point of view though?

you could check with them , see what clearance they recommend & what they would charge to bush the rods

Is it just the lighting or did they actually grind on the washered
part of the bolt too?  Seems a bit crude to me either way.
Did they even bother to grind on the weight pad? You know... the
spot on the end of the rod where you're SUPPOSED to grind ?  :banghead:
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Yep they ground on part of the bolt too? And on the side of the rod that determines rod clearance too.
ya... doesn't evoke warm fuzzy feelings doesn't it? :eek7:
I'm a mold maker by trade and I'm used to working in tenth's so I am a bit "anal" when it comes to measuring .... I thought at first that maybe I was being too picky... but no... don't think I'm the issue?
