Second thoughts on enginechoice
« on: October 18, 2011 - 09:48:14 AM »
For my project I have a 482 FHO Hemi that I need to put together when the body is done but I start to doubt that a Hemi is the engine I want in my vert. Maybe a stroked 440 is a better choice due to installation and extra cost?

On long term, will the car be more valuable with a Hemi then another BB engine beeing a clone anyway?

From what I have seen, a Hemi will always command a price premium. Although as you mention, it will cost a lot more to get it.

You could build a monster 440 for a lot less, I'd think.

The HEMI should add value & desirability  but in this market I doubt it would make a difference , I saw a coronet with a hemi in vegas , he had about 75k into the car & was trying to sell for around 28K & it didn't sell so build what you want

Thing is that I already have the Hemi but thought of maybe putting that one in my Charger -68 which doesn't have an engine for the moment due to the bad
machinework.

Oh God yeah, Per! A 68 Hemi, 4 spd Charger in dark green with black vinyl roof and guts would be my ultimate car; bar none. If you can do it, why not? Enjoy!

Yeah... but a Hemi Challenger Vert would be pretty damn sweet, too. :-)

put the hemi in the vert. a smallblock in the charger... when you start jumping that 68 , it will go nose down way too quick with the hemi inside... seen that in a movie a while ago....  :violin:

If you have the hemi put it in. THere is not much if any difference in installing the hemi as opposed to the 440

Go Hemi but you will pay dearly!

I could tell stories about this for a while.

Is it clearence problems you refer to or? Being a mild stroker with a single carb I hope it will be rather maintenancefree once it's tuned in.

No clearance problems I'm referring to. Rather, it costs more to build a Hemi. That's all I was saying.
