Front sway bar brackets
« on: October 19, 2011 - 04:54:24 PM »
Hey,
Just a quick question regarding the brackets on the K member for the sway bar mounts.
On mine the sway bar mounts aren't perpendicular to the sway bar, they angle out as seen from the front.
Is this standard?

I'm trying to decide whether I should bend the plates that bolt to the K member so the brackets are square to the sway bar.
As it is the bar rotates easy enough though...

Aaron, I think if you turn the brackets over the two " side " walls are different sizes/heights. This allows you to " level" it. Don't know if it's " correct" or not but it worked for me? :dunno:

mine are not 100% square, but almost.  Try what Brad suggested, if that doesn`t help, there may be a slight difference in the dimple in the K-member, where the plates mount. I would try to correct it one way or the other... the way they sit now will wear your rubbers pretty fast I guess.

just thinking... what happens if you push the bar down, like when the weight of the car is on?

Thanks guys,
The Hotchkis bar comes with packers to get the bar centered in the k member, so I ground a couple of them down to reduce the angle of the brackets.

I think the whole k frame is tweaked , those should sit level

The K member is square, the diagonal cross measurements between the 4 corners match the factory specs.
I was talking with Hotchkis and they said their challenger is the same (angled brackets). Some photos I've found
clearly show the brackets on an angle too...  Maybe it's a common fault with the construction?

Mine look just like yours.  I don't see any way around it unless one builds brackets that have a tapered thickness due to the way the K frame is shaped.

You could shim the brace that bolts to the k-frame.   :dunno:

I don`t understand how the braces sit the way they do on your frame...  :clueless:  Does your frame not have the "dents" that make sure the braces are level?  ( you can see them in the pic I posted before...) I would try and wack that section of the frame into position  :dunno:
