Forum rant

Hi guys, as some may know, I like radio controlled cars.  I recently joined a RC car site and man, they are strict.  I understand about being nice to others and courteous, no flaming, etc.... but another member posted a thread on a build they had in my thread so as sort of a courtesy to acknowledge that I saw it, I posted a compliment on his thread.

Shortly there after, I received a PM stating that I had made an INFRACTION!!!!  :(  :o  I felt like I was called to the principal's office!!!  :-\  This forum is so heavily monitored by the mods it's...interesting....

The subject line of the PM was, “ You have received a warning at @@@@ forum.”
States, “Reason:
-------
Spam/Useless posting

check the last post date on the thread,if it's over a month old(let alone this one which is over a year old) dont post unless you have something valid to add.
-------

Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow.”

So you can’t even go onto a thread to compliment people or anything, which a lot of times people post a thread to get the feedback from others.  They even deleted my post.  :(

It wasn't a 1 word repyl or anything but several sentences complimenting his build, again as a courtesy showing a I saw the thread.  I hope they don’t give me a warning for poore speeling or nuttin……

They have a bunch of rules.  You can’t even ask what people prefer, what color to paint a car, etc.  You need to have a 5 word minimum per post!  I know they are there for a reason but you know how a lot of members here ask what color to paint their car, what rims look good, etc…  Over there they are considered “personal choice” questions and posting anything like this will result in a “yellow card” which means=”verbal warning (yellow card, not too severe but they add up)”.  The list goes on and on….

Here's the rule:
“YELLOW Refrain from making responses to post, like "Cool", "I Like It", "Awesome", etc.... They will be deleted and you will not get credit for the post. Take the time to write a full sentence. posts like, what tires are those, that color is it, what wheels are those, and others do fit in this category. if you cannot come up with more than 5 words to post, then you have no reason to post then. posts like this are a waste of time to most and just take up forum space.”

You can’t even ask what wheels are on the car!  Feels like big brother is watching every move you make. Maybe it's because you have to use full sentences of more than 5 words or something (As applied to the above rule????  )

I’ve only been there like a week and already have a section added to my user control panel, “Latest Infractions Received” that doesn’t expire until 11/14/11!!!  See the attached pic!

I dunno, I was having fun there but it really makes me appreciate the forum we have.

Ok, deep breath….   I’m just stating this stuff as a reminder to our members that we really do have a nice forum with nice people here (and nice mods!!!!)

Hmm, sounds like some mods have too much time on their hands and way too little bandwidth for their site.  Personally, I'd look elsewhere and tell them why I was leaving.

I've experienced the exact oppposite on some other marque web boards I've visited. Moderation was so lax that you had members calling each other out with multiple four letter words with insults towards mothers, wives, and girlfriends. They got chilish to an extreme so even though there was maybe one nugget of legit info for every 100 posts, it wasn't worth sorting through all the BS to find it.

would you please remove that post... sounds like spam to me...  :aarg:

I don`t understand how these boards keep their members  :clueless:   I was a member on a car related forum with a very "present" mod once... Someone posted a picture of what he was doing to the same part of his ride in my topic... I liked seeing his ideas but in the end we were kicked off ... both... The mod said "off topics not allowed"   :screwy:

yep, this is a great site. Everyone generally gets along very well. In fact in my 2.5 years Ive only come across blood between maybe two people, and neither posts here anymore?
Also, the issue a few months ago with the 70 cuda historian. Dont know what happened there. He seemed like a super nice and helpful guy  :burnout:

Phil, your such a rebel!  :aarg:
 :roflsmiley:

That's nuts huh? Wow ? I agree I'm on a few other Forums and this by far is the best!  I've had the same experiance as you Tommy just a few " difficult to like/ swollen head" sort of people, but considering how many people are on here that's pretty darn good averages I'd say! :2thumbs:
Nothing like Mopar people!  :grinyes: :2thumbs:

This isn't all that uncommon among serious forum boards...Our Site has some fairly strict rules, but we didn't want to come off as "Tight a$$es".

Thing is, ALL of that info would/should have been covered in the "Terms of" agreement that nobody actually reads. We have a Sticky posted "READ BEFORE YOU REGISTER" section to set the rules forth so we don't have this type thing happen. Yes, some guys feel they need to "Over mod", while some of our mods seem to "under mod".
Of my 8 years on forums, I've seen a whole spectrum of people that posts and it really does take all kinds. These are just some of what I've seen on our board.

1. The "Holier than thou" Poster who continuously tries to post "Down" to you. Usually, uses sarcasm as a way of pushing your buttons.
2. The "Correcter" poster who ALWAYS tries to post "Correcting posts" after yours, ESPECIALLY, but not limited to, Spelling.
3. The "Class clown" Poster who always tries to post sarcastically and usually ends up pissing somebody off, then tells them to "Lighten up".
4. The "Old fogey" Poster who doesn't answer the post, yet posts his entire life history of how he/she "had one when you were still sh***ing green".
5. The "Truth stretcher" Poster who posts outragious claims and sometimes into outright lies to make him/herself appear to be "Better" than you.
6. The "One-up" poster who always has either had one or knew someone who had one better than you have now.
7. The "Purist" Poster who believes if it didn't come from the factory that way, you should be hanged at high noon for doing it your way.
8. The "10K posts" Poster who posts smileys, pics, etc. to see his/her post count go up.
9. The "Coded one" poster who posts in "Code" like the text messages of Cell phone users.
10. The "Facebook" Poster who comes onto a forum and for whatever reason, figures he/she has to post EVERY detail of their lives.
11. The "XXX" Poster who simply figures it should be quite "OK" to post porn on the open board and gets highly upset when told "NO".
12. The "Me too" Poster who always kisses the a$$ of anybody who's winning the online arguement in a discussion.
13. The "Hot Rodder" Poster who modify's everything, no matter how "Rare".
14. The "Know-it-all" Usually a purist that posts about anything from factory seat cover patterns, to factory apllied undercoating patterns.
15. The "Flipper" only gets on the forum to see what kind of "Deal" he/she can get and re-sell back at profit.
And the list goes on and on...

Cooter, that list you came up with is CLASSIC!!!!  :grinyes:

Yeah, I dunno, it's just so easy to kick back and shoot the breeze.  We're all adults here, have our differences and all, but at the end of the day it's all good.
